He was missing all over the place. Left, right, long, short. That's a result of his shot mechanics. Those need to be retooled. If he was generally on line just missing long or short then it's just nerves or something, but he was kind of scattered. Plus watching him shot his elbow starts at different points all the time, his wrist looks like he's flinging his shot, not smoothly releasing it. Everyone is enamored that he has a high release but that's miniscule compared to his general mechanics not being great.

Not sure why this is getting lulz. It’s virtually impossible to rebut what I’ve said. The kid is bad. He’s tall and long. That’s about it.

This whole high shot thing is so overused and overstated. How often do guys with lower shot releases get blocked? Once every nine games? Who gives a damn? It’s so infrequent it’s beyond negligible.
 
Man, too many people concerned about the wrong things with Ace. I was not an Ace "stan" going into the draft, but still think he has a relatively high ceiling and hope the Jazz can optimize his career. But whether or not he scored much in his first game is the least important thing to worry about. It's everything else that we should be looking at (and I thought he did fine at these things).

Jazz assistant coach and SLC Summer League head coach Scott Morrison said that the offensive parts of Bailey’s game are not what the Jazz are concerned with right now. Once Bailey gets to a point where he’s doing everything else up to standard, then the Jazz staff will start working on things like shot selection and offensive involvement.


For now, the focus for Bailey will be on being patient, different pick-and-roll reads on defense, knowing when to cut or stay in the corner, how to maintain pressure on the ball on every possession, how to recover defensively in the Jazz’s system and how to communicate effectively.

“We’re more interested in him playing hard and pressuring the ball and spacing in the corner,” Morrison said. “All those things that have nothing to do with scoring or shooting are way more important to for him to establish and get on the court, and then once he established those things where he can help the team in a positive manner without scoring, then we can worry about his shot selection.”

This. Frankly Steph has an incredibly low shot release and is a small player, yet likely the best shooter in the history of the game. They have to point to something to be excited about having the guy at the 5th pick. I think they would have been better off with Tre, who at last has one elite skill.

Guys who can't get their shot off just won't shoot it. So you won't see it in block numbers or anything like that.
 
Most players in the league with less of a high release point dont get their shots off frequently enough without pressure and therefore they arent in the league. Steph is an accepting to the norm. If I was in the league, I would have so many shots blocked...

A high release makes it nearly impossible to block Durant, Ingram, Porter, and others. That helps them not rush their shots. VJ doesn't have that tool.

Doesn't mean that he won't be a capable of scoring... but...
 
In other words, I would prefer to be Mondo Max with a 12" stout than a Dirk Diggler with a 4" stiffy even if both can still get the job done.

We're really scraping the bottom of the "tools" barrel here. A contested 2pt jumper is the worst shot in basketball, high release point or not. The fact that Ace likes to take them doesn't mean he should.

To think that having the #3 pick would have immediately changed the trajectory of this franchise... of course, the Ainges would still probably have taken Ace.

Gobert's super power. He didn't lead the league in blocks every year partly because teams completely changed their strategy and avoided the paint entirely while he was in the game, sometimes to hilarious effect.
