2025-2026 Tank Race Prediction Contest and Current Results Thread

Yep. They got so lucky with the pels being awful thar they can actually risk tanking and still guarantee they get a good pick. For the hawks it just turns into even more of a gold mine. They now get two good shots at a top 4 pick.
The most stacked pre-lottery pick of all time? Joe Dumars needs to go to prison.

Which is why you do your work early. All of these teams that are starting to head towards tanking are wishing they would have started sooner.
Yep. You are so much better off starting early so that you can build a nice cushion and don't have to screw around later. This is going to get really interesting with us only having a 3 loss advantage on the griz and bucks and having 4 games against them left. The good news is that the Pelicans have 3 games against us, 3 versus the kings and 2 versus the bucks. They also get the wiz and griz at home .

This.
Would be nice to have a big cushion right now.

And - it cannot be overstated - no incentive to lose. At some point that has to matter.

I'm a broken record at this point, but the idea of losing something for those extra losses just seems so silly to me. I get that it sucks in the moment, but do we really care that Lauri likely missed an extra game or two (or more)? Did we destroy our culture because we've benched Svi+Nurk a few times? If the teams above us had a top 8 pick protection I would not envy their position, but I'm certain they envy our position when the cost is doing stuff they're going to do anyways.

And this isn't a "tanking always works" post. It's just to say that we didn't really lose much for doing it.

It's easy to say that when you're not bothered by losing in the first place.

I've tried many times to really understand the tanker state of mind, and I just can't. I mean on some level I get the self-deception reasons behind it, but I can't get to the level where losses are good and wins are bad.

I'm sure it would eventually make me hate basketball.

The difference is pretty simple. I exist in a world where tomorrow exists whereas you have been outspoken that it does not (except when you want to complain). If all that mattered was winning on a given day I would be right there with ya.
