Al Jefferson to Utah? ...Mark Stein's Twitter reports

On the luxury tax thing:

Is it just me, or would you kind of assume that, if we do land Jefferson, we'll basically turn our attention to trading AK in a pure salary dump - for a draft pick or something, to some team that wants that expiring contract - and then use that created room to match the Matthews offer and sign Brewer? Sounds plausible. If they could find a taker by next Monday, at least.

I like this move, just confused as to why we're suddenly willing to go over the luxury tax for Al Jefferson, who's a good big but not someone who suddenly would allow us to compete with the Lakers.

And who do we get that does suddenly would allow us to compete with the Lakers? I think the Millers are willing to pay the tax on Jefferson because I think it's quite viable that we are better team with him than opposed to Boozer. His 3 year averages are better than what Boozer's career numbers were in Utah and I think Jefferson can even improve on them once in Utah's system. He's 4 years younger and plays in higher percentage of games than Boozer when looking at lost time to injury.

ak for a first round pick from another team and i wouldn't be surprised to see corey brewer. This team is going to look different next year ;)

They don't call him Big Al for nothing. He's big. Country big like Cousins. I could sign off on this. Gotta check into his knees, though.

I love this board. Utah signs nobody, people piss and moan. If Utah goes to sign a potential 20/10 guy, people piss and moan. Apparently there's just a trove of super long athletic big men out there that are just waiting to be signed.

Not right away, but it is a huge step in that direction. Lakers are getting a bit older. Kobe is 32, Odom is 31, Gasol 30. Deron, Jefferson, and Millsap are 25, and all have all star potential (Deron MVP type of potential). In a couple of years who knows where the power in the West will be. One thing is for sure, Deron definitely would like to see all star type talent in Utah if he is to stay there.

Maybe dreams really do come true, because this sounds about as good as it gets for mine.

It will be with the Thunder, but they arent as unbeatable as the Lakers, since they still have no low post scorers.

Well, Jefferson doesn't help very much with the program to lose 82 games next year and get a top 4 pick. And if we don't win the championship with him, we're a lot farther away from accomplishing absolutely nothing. So maybe you should remember what we're trying to do here.
