Lakers reject Rondo for Gasol swap

The Boston organization, which is much more in the know than either of us, says he is hard to handle, uncoachable and a problem. I am more inclined to take their word for it over yours.

Also if he was that mature he would be able to handle himself like a proffesioal and do what the coach asks.

I'm sorry? When did the Boston organization say that?

more importantly what is the source of this:Lakers reject Rondo for Gasol swap,,does any1 have a link for this? do u believe LA would refuse rondo for Gasol? noooo ****in way

It has come out a good half dozen times. I am to lazy to go searching but it is there if you want to find it.

I think you're wrong on this Gojazz. I can all but assure you this is message board/rumor generated and perpetuated. Maybe true? Who knows, but I doubt it's ever been said publicly by Boston.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Boston is an aging team on the verge of a major rebuilding effort. Rondo and Rivers never got along. So they are left with two options; suck it up and rebuild around an empowered Rondo at the risk of losing Rivers and having to deal with Rondo's personality, or use Rondo, one of the Celtics' most valuable assets to get quality picks/pieces for the rebuilding process. Rondo is nothing like Cousins. He is a mature hard working player, who happens to be a bit high maintenance.

Very good post.

When used right, Gasol is still probably the #2 big in the game. Rondo is perhaps #6 in the PG rankings and probably higher than #10 when you include all backcourt players. If I were LA no way would I do Gasol for Rondo straight up.

It is possible as I do not remember the sources of where I read it. I want to say ESPN had articles on his unchoachability but I could be wrong.

I've known Jonny since he was a junior in high school. He does have some clashes with coaches and, to a lesser degree, some teammates. Rather than write a book here about each instance, I can tell you that every time, that I am aware, it had to do with a lack of effort. He never got on players for mistakes, but rather being lazy (whether it be off-season, practice, or during games). He's intense and wants to win. In my opinion, he'd do well mentoring a hard-working core of young guys that aren't afraid to bust their asses.

Coaches are not immune to this either. I know of two instances when he demanded more of the coaches (time put in to 'coach up' younger guys, specifically) and didn't hold back his feelings. Never done publicly, but let them have it for being 'lazy.'

He's intense, no doubt. But at least it's about winning.
