Marc Stein: Jazz-Warriors discuss pre-Lottery trade (Source says trade "likely")

The rule states that you cannot sell/trade your first round pick in back to back drafts. If through selling/trading your pick you get another first rounder then that counts as your first round pick.

The pick would be coming straight from Philly to the Jazz.

Wow! How'd you come up with this? I like it. Unless I'm missing something, it seems to make sense for all teams.

PHI decides it's reached its limit with only a defensive oriented team with good role players, rolls the dice that #7/8 will provide a scorer.
GS attempts to go from tanking to contending with Curry/Thompson/Iggy/Lee/Bogut lineup.
UTA figures that in this deep draft the difference in quality between #8 and #15 is not great. Decides that a high quality role player fits needs better than a 1 in 4 shot at a player who may be just slightly better.

I was reading the warriors message board on RealGM and they were talking about trading the #7 for Iggy.

It does kind of seem like a stretch for Philly to do this, but it would make a ton of sense for GS and would explain why they are desperate to have their pick guaranteed this year.

If the Jazz help facilitate a trade to get the warriors a proven vet, we need to get something more out of it than lower protection next year because if they added someone like Iggy the protection on the pick wont even matter.

Word is philly would like to amnesty Brand. Not sure if they would or not. They already seem to need some help down low, with or without Brand. They seem like a good trading partner for us.

After they amnesty Brand, we trade Al to them for the 15th pick and a future first rounder.

Philly also seems like a team who is ready to win now. So they might not to want to add a rookie.

Word from who? Philly doesn't make crazy money as a franchise so I highly doubt they'd amnesty Brand AND take Jefferson off our hands via a trade. That's a ton of money. It wouldn't be a huge deal if someone then signed Brand to a decent little deal but his value is so low that I don't see that happening and I see Philly having to eat the far majority of his contract. I suppose it could happen though since their cap number isn't very big.

That said, the whole 'not wanting to add a rookie because we're in win now mode argument' thrown out by many including yourself is so dumb. Teams wouldn't want to add a talented, young player on a rookie contract? Really??? Philly isn't exactly loaded with talent and imo, they should covet their pick unless a very good deal is offered.

How about this?

Jefferson and Bell to Philly for Brand and their 15th? I think this actually makes some sense, minus Jefferson's fatass in what could or should be an up-tempo system.

They get the big they need in Big Al and add a veteran presence in Bell, lol. We get a 3rd/4th big, who's expiring and who probably wouldn't have a problem or publicly bitch about coming off the bench (Brand's pretty classy), a true veteran presence, get a solid pick in a good draft, and save 320K. And I'd much rather have Brand teaching our young bigs than Jefferson.

Well, Im not going to go PKM on you and pretend I have an inside source. I just read it from a philly writer. Thats why I added the caveat that I wasnt sure.

Ya, I like to add rookies, and so do you and others. But your guy's favorite GM (KOC), has said many times that he doesnt want to have too many young people on this team. Im not making that up. Thats why I think he doesnt want to draft more young players. So I am assuming that maybe other GM's think the same. I dont really know either way. Im just throwing stuff against the wall that I would do, that probably wont happen.

Plus philly is looking for a big and a lot of the bigs will be off the board at that point(15th pick). Thats more of a spot for us where the pg's are at.

To me philly just seems like a good trade partner for us
