Following potential 2012 draftees

Just my opinion -- I know most of you will disagree: even if this info about GS has credence, I'd rather not give it any more credence here than we give any other rumor that comes out. We know, on the one hand, that KOC doesn't respond well to leaks. If we trust him to improve the team, and if we want him to make moves, digging further into leaks only has the possibility of hurting those goals (not saying it will, but in today's social media world, you never know -- we're not just a bunch of guys sitting around discussing the Jazz in someone's basement). On the other hand, any draft-day trade is likely contingent. It may never happen, even if a prior agreement holds up, due to what happens on draft day prior to the pick -- it may be largely out of the control of the teams that made the agreement. We may all be sorely disappointed if we go into the draft expecting something to happen.

I'm happy to answer this, but it's a bit painful .. would prefer to have others explain (Cy, Hantlers .. anyone?). Hard for me to do this here.

Drugs, sex, and billions of dollars what could possibly be painful? Chris Bosh hired a massause for back rubs, Jason Williams gun accidently discharged, Jordan just wanted to play baseball, the bag belonged to Melo's cousin, WWW has something to do with the internet, Tim Donaghy was a lone wolf, and this November I'll get to help choose the next President. I set aside my rose colored glasses years ago, so pm me if you can't say it here.

This is likely for one of GS's 2 second round picks. It seems like the Jazz are interested in D. Miller at that pick too.

After watching last nights game it makes me hope that the Jazz are selling high and surrounding the young core with hard work and talent.

Once again the ESPN draft combine coverage is ****ty as ****. Just show me the workouts, don't do a closeup on one player so I can't see what I came to see, HOW THE DAMN PROSPECTS ARE PERFORMING IN DRILLS! And actually comment on the workouts, stop giving me ****ty background info I don't care about.

Shoe companies -

For some this is all very elementary, but I will put it out there for those that find it interesting.
Who gets shoe money? Depending on the perceived future marketability of a player;
- HS coach
- HS athletic dept
- AAU coach
- AAU team
- College coach
- College team
- Family members of the player
- Girlfriends (true)
- Other necessary folks that endear the player to the reps of the company

Truth is, by the time these kids get to college, the BIGGEST relationship in their life (outside of family) is with a shoe rep. Shoe companies are not bound by the NCAA, obviously. Years ago, the companies would pay all coaches lots of money .. that has changed .. but the money is still being spent, but being spread around a lot more.

These shoe reps steer the player (through relationships built with coaching staff and the family, typically) toward certain AAU programs, college choices, agents, and are even involved in pre-draft talks (rarely) with where a player will end up playing .. regardless of where he is drafted (Kobe).

I don't pretend to know everything that goes on behind the scenes, but I can tell you the shoe companies have a whole lot more sway/swagger than most anyone knows. They insert themselves into most every move (or at least try).

One player coming into college next year has multiple family members earning nice money .. and that has lots of sway in their decision making .. and likely will for many years to come. (Some of these deals are huge loans that magically disappear if the player makes the 'right' decisions .. but have to be paid back, if not.)

I couldn't make it to the combine but have several very good friends there (media) and they're going to let me know of anything newsworthy .. but, again, they are pro-UK and most info will be slanted that direction.

Teams are impressed with Teague. Very poised and hitting everything.
(I warned it would be pro-UK, lol)

Chad Ford just gave P3 major props for "transforming" Orlando Johnson athletically. Looks like Utah discovered a training program that is becoming more and more popular.

Yep, I like it.

Also, Lillard impressed me .. I like him, but his stock just rose a little for me. I know it's just shooting around, but still ..

Funny stuff

Jonathan Givony:
How mistakes are made at the NBA Combine. Scout: "why won't Kawhi Leonard participate in drills?Must be trying to hide that he can't shoot!"

It's almost embarrassing how this combine is practically a UK infomercial.

Heaps of praise for MKG being able to change the culture of a franchise.

If we trade into the Lottery and Lillard isn't avaliable, what about Terrence Ross? This kid looks like he has huge upside, very good defender. He's a good shooter and apparently very clutch.

Ross is a streaky shooter and seriously lacks grey matter.

Getting into the lottery does not seem as difficult as I thought that it would be. There is certainly risk and salary involved but the payoff could be huge.
