Reading all the news headlines today it would certainly seem as if the Mayan calendar theory is not so far fetched.

How can there be a major war? There is no parity of major powers. No country could go head to head against the US and NATO. Any war would by definition be a minor war. Russia and China ( or India) I guess is theoretically possible, but I don't see why.
or are you thinking about Iran and Israel.

I think China and Russia v. U.S. and Europe would be a 12 round slobber knocker. I think neither side wants a war but the problem I see is if other countries that the above powers are treaty bound to get in a war.

Hence my comments about Turkey and Syria. Iran will back Syria obviously. NATO is treaty bound to Turkey. Russia is also a major supporter (from what I have read) of Syria.

Edit: No single country may match up but a combination might.

doesn't matter as long as production of this **** is protected.

China has a much larger standing army. But that is nothing a few well placed bomb wont fix.

I'm scared of how I should receive this post.

But, yes, the US has had a history of indiscriminately bombing the **** out of places.

well. it isnt about bombs and warfare.
the way things have been going china would attack the economy. and the computer infrastructure first.
cripple the whole us of a before a single shot is fired ;).

of course if its an old fashioned war just bring hardware and manpower and start shooting, it's a different story

I'm not syaing USA will defintly lose vs china.
but it might be a vietnam kinda thing

heck america cant even win a simple "war" on terror and drugs

I don't understand what you think could happen.
China could not threaten the US militarily for any logical purpose.
Economically, they have displaced a large part of our manufacturing base already.
Their impact in this area has probably peaked.
They are no longer even the low cost wage labor supplier.
Manufacturing jobs are shifting to other countries as China wages have risen.
