Agents Puzzled By Jazz/Roger Braille

Brian T. Smith: Unresolved Roger Braille buyout situation complicates Howard's interest in re-signing with Jazz; more likely he'll choose another #NBA team.

Maybe Roger is just doing us a solid by making sure Howard cant re-sign with us.

1. Jazz don't want to sign anyone else. Having 15 under contract solves that problem. Much nicer than not calling someone back or having the police pay them a visit to tell them to stop stalking you.

2. Now a matter of pride. Raja and his agent agreed to buyout terms back in July. Then - and I suspect it was due to another team deciding not to sign Roger - they backed out of the deal. I'm assuming they now want a buyout on their new terms...likely close to his full salary. Jazz can simply sit tight. I believe they've only carried the full number of players one time in recent years. So they don't need the roster spot. If Braille wants his full salary, he'll have to remain on the team, but be inactive every game. If Roger wants to actually play, he'll need to sign the agreement he made in July and take a chance that another team actually wants him.

My favorite quote out of this entire mess is from Roger's agent:

"(Roger) hasn't refused or accepted anything."

Yet, ironically the problem errupted when Roger refused to accept that he was old, and should be glad to collect a check for sitting on the end of the bench and keeping his yapper shut.

Also, what kind of boss is KOC and Rigby?

"Welcome aboard Dennis, here's your office, we'll order you some pens and a name plate. Hey, by the way, we've got this little thing to finish up with Roger, its nothing really, so why don't you jump in and get your feet wet?"

why would agents even care about the bell situation? "oh, client, don't go sign with them, they take forever to buy out guys they don't want anymore." that's just silly.

my theory is that rudoy is the one planting this seed in an attempt to get leverage in the buyout talks. right now the jazz have all the leverage because they have less urgency to cut him today than braille has to be cut today so he can go sign with another team. they know that and as such are probably saying at this point, "our buyout offer is on the table, call us when you're ready to accept." there is no incentive for the jazz to come down on their buyout offer.

so then braille and his agent have to create some urgency in order to get the jazz to meet them at a more acceptable amount, and the only way they can do this is if they start getting others to talk about it in a way that sounds like it should embarrass the jazz.

yeah seriously... are we to believe that the jazz haven't made a buyout offer? they are the ones who leaked more than two months ago that a buyout was looming.

Any of the players left on free agency now are no better than roger is, so there is no motivation for the Jazz to lose money on a worse buyout.

I will never call Roger Braille by his given name ever again. People need to start bringing signage to Jazz games taunting him when the season starts

I believe Roger and his agent know that he won't get a chance with a NBA team anymore and Roger probably doensn't want to play in Europe or somewhere else, so now the question they have in their minds is: Do I sit here and get paid or leave and retire? They think it's better to sit around and get paid!
