Kevin Murphy Might Be Legit Thread

Saw some stuff tonight I haven't seen in other rooks/sophs. Wait and see, but this kid looks like he actually has adaptable talent. We'll see.

p.s. please don't cry when he takes 4 minutes per game from Burks and Foye.

He's deceptively quick and moves well with and without the ball. He's not explosive, but he's got good touch and decent scoring instincts. Could be a really good mid-range shooter.

Murphy looked really good putting the ball on the floor tonight-reminded me a little of Marshon Brooks with his mid range game. Looks like he needs some work developing 3point range.

And he looked good on defense too-moved his feet well and didn't defend with his hands. Looks like KOC did his homework again in the second round.

This is what I was most interested in hearing (missed the game). I saw him enough in college to believe he could possibly adapt offensively, but was much more concerned about defense.

Sign me up for the fan club. He seems like a smart and calculated type of a player. Sort of like a Millsap when he first came out... won't try to do too much, play with brains, patient, etc. I'm excited for him

We'll see when the season starts, but I think more than anything he needs to change his body. He is going to get posted up constantly at 6'6 185.

I watched and wasn't impressed by his defense. I know he guarded Kobe a lot, but he seemed to have a hard time keeping his man from going right by him. I didn't think he did that well moving his feet, and used his hands too much, unlike what candrew said. I did like the other aspects of his games though.

Regardless, it sounds like he's a good shooter and at least tries to play "D," unlike Morris Almond. Doubt he'll play much this year, but perhaps he becomes a Korver-lite who can give the team 10-15 mins as needed next season.

I was impressed. Saw a play where he had to leave his man and run about 12 feet to guard another players man. Thing is, he had to read and react quickly to make the play, then he had to be unselfish.

If that was CJ Miles that is just an open look for 3 for the other team.

I'm not ready to sing his praises just yet, but, so far so good. I like what I saw.

There was a good stretch where he was defending Kobe, and you know the kid was probably crapping his pants a little.

But he really did well. Didn't back down, kept a hand in his face, and did great keeping up with him. His offense looked nice and silky too.

Hope to see some more of him.

I think the kid can play. He has very good basketball instincts and seems willing to learn and play team ball. I thought his defensive effort was very good. On another board, I drafted the kid with our second round pick so I liked him coming out of college. I agree that he needs to work on his body and I am sure he will. I think Murphy will get some playing time down the line if he continues to work hard and improves his all around game.

Kid can actually hit a jump shot. It amazes me how poorly some NBA guys shoot. We've all been to the rec center, and seen pasty old white men who
can't miss. Raja Bell and Howard couldn't hit a damn shot at times last year. Murphy gives me hope that he is as advertised, a good shooter/scorer.

The other good thing about Murphy is we don't need him/expect much from him this year. Anything he gives us is icing.
Our bench is deep...

I am thinkign that the Jazz may have hit another homer with the 47th pick. Not saying Murphy will be MIllsap good but I think Murphy is here to stay and will positively contribute to the team. Glad to have him.

Too bad you can't combine players, because if Hayward had Murphy's dribble drive pull up jumper, Hayward would be an all-star this year.

I couldn't remember a Jazz player with such a sweet pull up.

But O'Connor has put together a really nice roster, minutes are going to be hard to come by for murphy.

It's true, but you have to realize how much better the defense is in the NBA. Every shot is just a little more rushed.

Basketball is an interesting game. When I play with people who I am a little bit better than I hit pretty much everything and look amazing. When I play with people that are better than me, I struggle to make even the open shots.

Thats my theory on why Morris Almond was a machine in the DLeague, but couldn't do anything in the NBA.

What I liked about Murphy last night is that he looks like he actually has court awareness. Burks, Favors, Kanter, & Hayward (to a lesser extent), all rely on pure athleticism to get the job done, but none of them are even average in realizing where they fit into all the cogs on the court. They also don't react well to defensive responses or fool the defense into respond in a way they want it to. When they get in trouble they jump higher, push harder, move quicker. Murphy seems to anticipate better instead.

But he hasn't played much & this is all reactionary at this point.

It's true, but you have to realize how much better the defense is in the NBA.

CJ Miles couldn't hit wide open shots, in CJ rhythm, feet set, & all the time in the world to shoot.
Bell actually shot pretty well when he wasn't guarded at all.

I liked what i saw, he looks like another 2nd round gold nugget to me.. he plays with a confidence that few rookies have.. it is nice to see that confidence without Arrogance. he just goes out and trys to play his game. and considering the increase speed of the nba's defense and him haveingto rush his shot a little more, i was nothing but impressed. also i agree with what has been said his defense lack a little.. but we need to remeber he was on kobe... even if he is an "old man" it is still a little overwhelming i am sure.

He looked good, but it was one game..... Just sayin'!!!!

I go and jump on the wagon with you with both feet and then you hit me with something like this? I'm hurt Zulu.
