Is anybody else scared that Corbin will give Foye more minutes than Burks?

I don't think Coach Corbin is as inflexible and biased towards veterans as some people. Veterans naturally have an advantage in that the coach largely knows what they are capable of. But that doesn't mean that Burks has no chance of getting more minutes. If he shows in practice and games that he is better than Foye, his minutes will increase.

Why doesn't Foye have to earn his minutes? Burks has clearly outplayed Foye besides the fact that Foye is a rent a vet and Burks still has a few more years on his contract. This is a Jazz tradition. They did it last year picking up Howard. In my opinion it holds back the development of the young guys.

Probably things in training camp and practices.

I'd like to believe this, but this doesn't account for how Corbin stubbornly continued to give Bell major minutes last year despite the fact that he contributed nothing of value at either end of the floor. This does not give me much confidence again this year that Corbin will give the youngsters (aside from Hayward) the playing time they need to develop.

Burks is rebounding the ball at a rate of 7.8/36 over the last 3 games and he has 4.7 actual rebounds/game over the last 3.

He has 2.8 assists/36 over these last 3 as well. He can get this up to at least 4

I'd like to see him get in the passing lanes a bit more and get used to dribbling the ball as a 1 even if he struggles a bit since this will improve his handle/confidence as a 2.

On his second 3 last night with the pass from Kanter, he really squared up perfectly even though the the pass came with the shot clock winding down.

Burks can get up to 18-20 points/game eventually if given the minutes.

He could definitely be an 18, 5.5, 4, 1.2 stls per game guy with shooting numbers (47%, 37%, 80%). If he can take his D to the next level, he could be great.

Corbin will absolutely play Foye more than Burks, I'm not scared, I'm convinced. Ty's rotations are terrible. I'm fed up with the same old mentality of playing the veteran over the young player, even if the young player deserves to be playing. Foye has been horrible. Our only hope is that he picks up a season ending injury. Burks should be playing 25-30 mpg. Foye should only play in garbage time. He's worse than I thought (and I didn't think much).

I want to see more of Burks catching and slashing to the basket with nothing else to add on the offensive end. Who cares about all that other stuff?

You must not be watching the games.... most of his points are coming on jumpers.

His field goal percentage and 3pt percentage are sky high. (i think JJAS showed something that said burks is shooting 71% from 3 point line.

Just like last year i will have to wait for an injury to force corbin to do the right/smart thing for this team.

Burks will ride the pine until someone gets hurt.

Franklin's too drunk to keep track of the on-court action.

I love Burks and I really like Foye. However, does anyone else notice that Foye is the only Jazz player that looks like he could still lose 15 or 20 lbs. I think Foye came into the season out of shape and it has hurt his game. I watched him with the Clippers a little last year and he was really shooting lights out from 3 the last half of last year.

I did not watch last night, Fog (f.o.j.). Did Burks facilitate in a way he has not thus far?

Your rose colored rookie homer glasses sure are cute.

I buy into Sloan's earn it concept. I also like the deserve it mentality some MLB managers have but that's a far less star-centric game & Jazz take issue with this losing culture stuff. You want. To play a GoldenState style losing for rook development then I fully embrace it.

I'd actually be fine with the Jazz riding out the season with Jefferson. I just hope Ty is willing to cut his (or Millsap's) minutes when Kanter (or Favors) has shown he's earned some of them. I don't see Al+Kanter working well together at all, so when Kanter needs minutes, there's only one place to get them (as I've stated before, I don't see the same complementarity issues with other Jazz Bigs combos).

You should watch last night's game. The Clips were doubling hard just about every time Kanter got the ball, and he was doing a good job finding open shooters (at the top of the key, the free throw line, on the low block and on the weakside...no joke), sometimes having to take a couple dribbles out of traffic and/or use his footwork to create passing lanes. The two assists are not indicative of his performance last night; had Randy Foye not been so tentative on open looks or Favors been able to hit a free throw line jumper, Kanter could have (or even should have) had 5+ assists. Definitely worth a watch.

edit: Perhaps this should be more about Burks. He's certainly seems to be earning more minutes than Foye; his play in 4th quarters has been particularly good.

I don't know if Foye is out of shape but I will say he's always looked like this - even when he was at Villanova. He just does not have a very good NBA body.

Agree with your earlier comment that Burks will be served well not to just attack at every apparent opportunity. He needs to better understand when to pick his attack points and when to shoot midrange or pass.

But yes, last night's game was a much more rounded effort for him.

I have no problem with the earn it concept.... but what has foye done to earn it besides be the biggest chucker on the team with a horrible field goal percentage? What did bell do to "earn it" last year besides be the worst player on the team.

I can understand keeping favors and kanter on the bench because i think that millsap and jefferson haved "earned it" on the court to a certain extent.... but i ask you franklin, what has foye done to "earn it"?

I think you're attacking an argument that nobody's making.

I don't want Burks to play because he could potentially be better than Foye one day, I want Burks to play because Foye sucks and Burks is already much better than him.

1. Burks is a rookie?
2. Burks has earned it. He's played better than Foye (and Tinsley, and debatably Hayward). Curious to know what you're talking about.

Maybe he averages more leaderships per minute. Look at what that did for Fisher, Harpring and Bell. You want more PT, forget working all offseason on your strength, athleticism, your shot, ballhandling, passing, etc. You need to be attending more Stephen Covey and Tony Robbins seminars so you can increase your lpm. That, my friend, is the path to playing time in this organization.
