Following potential 2013 draftees

Goodwin.

I've been fair about UK guys, as much as you guys like to be haterz.

Early in the year I though Archie played like a top 5 draft type player. Blazing speed, impossible guard, and hit every freakin circus shot he threw up. I knew those shots wouldn't keep falling, but it was damn hard to not love watching him play.

Later in the year, those shots weren't falling and I found myself cursing his mother for having birthed him. On this board I said hell no to Archie and called him an *** clown that I hope turns pro and leaves UK.

Where I stand now.. he has extreme speed, very good length, damn good athlete, very hard worker, motor is non-stop.. never gets tired. He has something I love in a player. Killer instinct. He wants to not just win but see you cry.. your children's children cry.

He tries too hard. Dribbles into traffic and..... falls down????? Over and over.. and its weird. Nauseatingly nauseating.
Freshman mistakes or no brains?? There's the question on Archie.. and I just don't know which it is.

He'll be VERY good (as good as anyone in this draft) if he's got it intellectually. If not, a total waste of a draft pick and won't play at all.

His range IS that wide.

It's official folks, PKM has boldly predicted Goodwin will either be good or he won't be good.

Gotto ask this... do you guys do IQ / aptitude / psycho tests when you're recruiting players for college?

I'm pretty sure NBA teams do it when they're assessing draft prospects...

No. The coaches just sit down ane talk with the kids, watch them play ball and go with their gut. Some teams do personality and aptitude tests but Calipari doesn't like them.

LOL.. yeah thought so.. for good reasons too.. imagine subjecting Andrew Wiggins to an aptitude test..

He'll try to be polite and just say "Are you serious right now?"

I've mostly just been an entreprenuer in my lifetime, starting and running my own businesses.. but I've made a couple pitstops along the way. I was once a high C-level exec with one of the world's largest companies. When I run my private companies I hire, train and manage with my gut feel for people. At the huge public company, everyone were subjected to personality/aptitude tests and placed accordingly. It was a disaster in my opinion.

I'd much rather just be real than take a man made test and its results to tell me who I'm speaking with.

More stuff..... (on Archie Goodwin) It's the mental toughness he has. You can't teach that kind of competitive fire, swagger and confidence.... I see him breaking down defenses and finishing or dishing off to whomever's defender he draws--Favors, Burks, or Kanter.

Uh-oh, I see a Utah Jazz red flag for character issues right there. Do you have any idea how many games this guy would have to sit on the bench watching Foye chuck and Hayward get wet-willied before Corbin & Co. could break his spirit? I mean they've been working on Burks for two years now and he still has moments where he tries to show swagger and confidence and Ty has to take him right of the line-up again.

Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, most of his players haven't picked up a pencil or had to read in over a year.

Isn't he the kid in Ender's Game? Imagine a basketball career and a biographical movie coming out the same time (November 2013). Good luck Andrew!
