Being a product of Western Christianity myself(arguably, at least), I can empathize with this view. . . . but being an Ambrose Bierce fan as well, I know better than to break it down as that simple. The other guys look as us as the "heathens" who "just don't see the true light" and are just as sure of themselves.

I've also seen some more positive approaches to Buddhism that could make it seem like the whole Universe is full of miracles and light, with the Enlightened Ones all graceful and generous and giving of themselves to the last thread of their clothing or last grain of their rice to bless the unfortunate. . . .

A Buddhist's first noble truth is that of being a victim. I mean, I guess a Buddhist wouldn't say so, but that is what it is. No?

“Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

Some "Christians" take it that way, too. . . . . .

the idea of "turning the other cheek", as well as doing good to your enemies can be taken to this perverted point as well. I think Jesus meant for us to be strong enough to keep our principles even when under provocation of any kind, not to just be so accepting of others we cannot deal with real problems on a reasoned or principled basis. He would when appropriate use his kind of "anger" to refute the teachings of others, drive merchants from the temple grounds, etc etc etc.

I want my religion to be competent to address real problems any day. . . . .

Personally, somehow I went past the big 4K without a cheer or a boo or a brag. Well, I'm doing the brag.

I'd say it's a holiday that is now just an outdated relic, like our Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Absurd exuberance about "independence" when our government today is doing everything to us the Brits ever did.

Jay Leno must be a rerun tonight. . . . joking about Snowdon. . . ha ha. High School dropout, earning 120K living in Hawaii with a hot balerina chick on the line. . . . and he gave it all up on principle. . . well, more out of sheer true liberal idealism gone bust over what Obama actually is. . . . a stooge for the interests, cartelists, the current versions of what the British Far East Trading Company was in 1776. . . . a stock corporation with a worldwide empire, selling opium to China, bringing slaves to America, exerting influence with the government far beyond what anybody can call decent.

And boy am I glad, as a Mormon. . . . well, sorta. . . well, a sympathizer in some respects if a critic in others. . . . that the Moron Church doesn't have to be cooking up a lot of apologetics for the mess Mitt would be making of this country. . . . nobody deeper int he Bush pocket on this planet, he'd be all in on all the superspy atrocities our "intelligence" corporates have got this country committed to. . . using their technologies of course. . . .

uhmmm. . . I've been watching an excellent DVD that's on sale now at the Deseret Book called "Fires of Faith. . . The Coming Forth of the King James Bible". Financed by some of our more notable wealthy patrons of our Utah community, and by some BYU folks. . . it's actually an excellent documentary with a lot of diverse authorities and viewpoints. I highly recommend this.
