Favorite Movie of All-Time

Brokeback Mountain?

Nah, seriously, the movies I remember...that impacted me months after seeing them were:

Winner:
1. The Killing Fields (sorry, bishop, I know it was an "R" movie).

Runners-up:
2. Twelve Angry Men. I re-watched that movie after serving on a murder trial several years ago. Moved way up my list of favorites after my experience.
3. A Man For All Seasons. Saw it as a young teenager, haven't watched it since. Maybe I wouldn't find it as impactful now.

That does seem like an almost impossible question. Like most other people, I have a lot of favorites in a lot of different genres.

I will say that my best theatre experience was seeing Fellowship of the Ring for the first time. First, simply because I'm a big sci-fi/fantasy guy. But the bigger factor was that I had no expectations going into the first one. I was so convinced it couldn't approach the books that i was totally unprepared for how good it actually was. I liked the other two films, but nothing can compete with seeing the first one for the first time.

Another film I should mention is As Good As It Gets. I generally *hate* romantic comedies, but these characters were just damaged and interesting enough that it really worked. I can hardly think of more unconventional love story. But the whole movie just gets me every time.

I also really like Aliens and Terminator 2, a couple of James Cameron classics that just hit the action sci-fi spot just right.

I'm also a big anime fan, with a lot of favorite anime movies. The Ghibli movies are mostly really good, especially the ones directed by Miyazaki... my favorite of those is Howl's Moving Castle. I also really like the original Ghost in the Shell film.

Of course, as me in a week and I may answer quite differently, depending on the mood I'm in.

You guys already listed some of my favorites but i'll just say...

The Matrix. When I first saw it I was like...

I love an artistic film as much as the next guy but I also love film as an outlet for ridiculous humor. That said my favorite film of all time is:

My view of the greatest film of all toggles between It's A Wonderful Life, Schindler's List, and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Always liked Christmas Vacation best of the Vacation movies, although I'm probably somewhat biased since it's kind of a Christmas tradition in my family.
