Incredibly, the Jazz have had only four coaches since moving from New Orleans in 1979, but on Monday we learned they'll need a fifth, as the team announced that head coach Tyrone Corbin will not be offered a new contract following a 25-57 season. So who might the Jazz turn to next? Jeff Hornacek would be a nice option right about now, but that won't be the case after his terrific season as a first-year head coach in Phoenix.

Instead, the name being mentioned most on Monday is San Antonio assistant Jim Boylen, the former coach of the Utah Utes. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports writes that Boylen is a "likely candidate," per sources, and that he "has a strong history with Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey."

Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune tweets that he heard Boylen mentioned for the job "more than once in the past week," adding this: "Boylen and Lindsey are close, share the same agent, and he fits the profile. Obviously the downside to JB is his tenure with the Utes."

Jody Genessy of the Deseret News writes of several other possible options, including Mike Longabardi, Alex Jensen, Brad Jones, Fred Hoiberg, Ettore Messina and Andy Greer, as well as Larry Krystkowiak."

I hope not. Even if is a good coach, I couldn't stand the guys antics while he was with the Utes. He is not an inspiring choice for a lot of Utah fans.

So I dont know anything about this Boylen guy. Why did Gregory have such a reaction regarding him?

Boylen is a salty basterd. He had a **** Ute team to coach that year, I'd be salty too.

My concerns:

1. Doesn't work well with youth. His hard line rubs young, fragile players the wrong way
2. We're young, he may alienate our younger players.
3. I have no idea what schemes he runs cause the Utes didn't run **** while he was coach.

My likeys:

1. He's a hard nosed, no ******** coach. Very Skiles like. I think our young guys have been coddled enough by Corbin. Time to kick these guys in the *** and make them play both ways.
2. His attitude reminds me of Pop and Sloan. I like.
3. He has Spurs experience now. That is good for any coach.

If he's hired I'll be coo. But I guarantee he'll have a season of earning the players trust cause he'll ride that *** like Jesus entering Jerusalem.

Jim Boylen is a fantastic assistant. As head coach. he's going to be a disaster for the Jazz.

Longabardi!

This. Several of the names being mentioned would be very uninspired hirings. They can keep Jensen and Jones as assistants and still afford to make a high-level hire. Longabardi seems like a good fit. Hell, I'd rather go old school and get an established NBA head coach like Hollins or Karl before hiring Boylen. Go after Billy Donovan or Kevin Ollie. This hire is huge for the franchise. Don't settle for a guy just because he has the same agent as you and you've known him for a long time. Interview dozens and hire the guy that can legitimately make you a contender.

Can't see Boylen coming back to Utah.
He left a path of destruction at U of U.
Any cooperation, partnerships, good will, etc between the Jazz, Utes, and U of U will be lost.

DL would have to make sure the dude is a complete home run/can't miss, because his history in this market doesn't allow "better than average" for Boylen.

Based on what?

Based on the fact he often looked lost and overwhelmed while coaching the Utes. His resume is pretty much living in other greats' shadows - Jud Heathcote, Tom Izzo, Rudy Tomjanovich and Greg Popovich. But none of that proves anything beyond the fact he's been a good assistant. I'd much rather the Jazz go hire a coach who has proven NBA head coaching experience and not risk promoting a woefully inexperienced assistant again.

Jim Boylen! Hahahahahahahahahaha! All the consternation about firing Corbin, and now we'll get Boylen! FML!

Not only no, but hell no. Boylen won his first few years at the U with Giacoletti's players. They were as bad as it gets by the time he left.

I'll take Larry K over Boylen any day of the week.
