Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

USA Today claims it is clear Hayward would prefer going to Charlotte.

Does this change anyone's thinking about matching? I know it is not his choice, but unhappy players are not usually, the most productive.
They play in the East. Statistically speaking, you've got a much better shot at the playoffs and being an All-Star by doing so. And all along, Hayward has been professional about the process and not burned bridges. It's a business. If they want him, they match the contract and both sides know it. Much ado about nothing IMO.

The only evidence they give for the claim is that Charlotte had a better record. They don't even claim "sources say". I.e., they have no evidence, it's just Sam Amick's opinion.

Record and likely based on the fact he doesn't have to be a 1st option.

Agree. Not one report to support this claim. Not one to refute it wither, however I think its clear hayward was looking for the money. He would have sigend this same deal directly with us if it were presented. It is funny reading the Hornets board on Realgm. They are really bent about us taking the full 3 days to match. Its pretty laughable when looking at the toxic componets their ****ty team put in the deal what could they have expected? We are not going to play nice now.

How many games would the Jazz have won in the eastern conference? Just guessing I would say 34-37. CHA is not a good team.

Yep. They are trying to take our guy. That makes them the enemy. Not to mention they gave him too much damn money. The Jazz better wait until the 71st hour.

You're overestimating the Jazz. It's actually a pretty straightforward calculation to make.

Their actual record was 25-57.
Games against Western Conf: 13-39 (52 games, won 25%)
Games against Eastern Conf: 12-18 (30 games, won 40%)

If they had been in the East, they would have played 52 games against the East, winning 40% (=20.8 games) and 30 games against the West, winning 25% (=7.5 games). Total #wins in this model therefore = 28.3, so lets say 28-29 games.

Funny thing is if we do not match Hayward will be a number 3 option in a so so team in the east, making 63 million in 4 years. I think this situation is even worse from Charlotte's point of view. Your 3rd option having a max contract and you're only a playoff team in the East. Can Hayward make Charlotte a top 3 team in East? I don't think so.

Cool and thanks for putting in the work. Still, Id take our roster anyday to what they have. Playoffs or not. Though I do hope we package some assets to quicken the rebuild. Im not sure how long we can go on losing.

Hmmm...picking 8th/9th after the Lakers and maybe the Kings. Likely a choice between Vonleh and McBuckets.

I think we need to know which assets to keep. In that respect, last year was pretty much a waste...except for finishing 4th worst and getting Dante. I think Exum, Burks and Hayward will be solid at the 1-2-3. I'm not sold yet on either Kanter or Favors. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Gobert emerge and for Lindsey to look for a better PF (3 and D type). If Marvin were a little bigger - and a little younger - he'd be a decent fit.

It will be interesting to see his attitude if/when he returns. Remember Paul's uncle asking Utah not to match the Portland offer and saying Millsap didn't want to play in SL after all the disrespect they were shown in the negotiating process? Paul came back and played like a professional. Well, until his final season when the effort just wasn't there. Still, I think any bad feelings were set aside and he would have re-upped with Utah last summer had they wanted to keep him.

Whatever the outcome and wherever Hayward ends up, this whole board meltdown is well worth the entertainment we'll get from the "I told ya so" crowds.. on both sides.. after EVERY game.

Doubt that will happen. I'm against the match, but if we do match I'm behind Hayward 100% and hope he can turn into a superstar like Paul George / Leonard, etc.

Duh.

But for those that say we shouldn't match (i.e. me) and he goes to Charlotte and puts up back-to-back 30+ point games, the "we should match" crowd screams at the top of their lungs.. same in reverse.

It WILL happen, no matter what.. and I'll love it, because drama is what I come here for.
