The Official Quin Snyder COY thread

On a serious note - I think he probably needs to get us to the playoffs to be considered for COY. Hornacek won 48 games with a team with similar projections as ours and still didn't get the votes for COY.

My thoughts as well.

COY before coaching a single NBA game? Stifle Tower is the greatest troll on this site. Sorry Hockkkkkkkk and HH but you cannot compete.
Can I compete?

I feel like I should be in the running here

franklin's a bit of a fixer-upper, but there might be hope for him.

Is there any question after just three preseason games he's the absolute best man for the job?

So what will it take for him to be considered for coach of the year?

Jerry Sloan, who we all know never won the award, had perhaps his best chance back in 2003-04 when he took a ragtag bunch many had predicted would be the worst in the league - and possibly worst ever - to within a game of the playoffs. The media was talking Hornacek up last season as a serious candidate until Phoenix faded in late March/April.

With a team projected to win under 24 games by oddsmakers and finish at or near the bottom of the WC by the media "experts," I think Snyder has a real shot at making a Hornacek-like run at the award. It's a longshot, but I think 43-45 wins by the Jazz, and contending for a playoff spot all the way to the end would earn him a lot of votes.

Yes, franklin and Bawse, I've obviously said Quin deserves COY after 3 preseason games.

Well, now that we have four games to go on, close the polls. Quin gots this COY thing in the bag.

Seriously, the team is fun to watch. The offense flows, there's effort on defense and he's getting results from just about everyone. I'm doubtful he gets COY (Jazz won't win enough), but I'm doing cartwheels right now. Had Corbin returned, I think I would have canceled LP. Now I'm forced to re-up.

Welp guess I will be the unpopular guy.

QS has never coached a pro game, and his team is a bunch of rookies and young players who haven't really been coached in years. 23 may be reasonable for wins no matter how much we want to pretend otherwise.

Favors is NOT a defensive force. Everyone needs to stop kidding themselves. He is not going to suddenly average 3 bpg and dominate the paint. He may improve on his defense, he will not be DPOY.

No one is going to improve dramatically. I just don't see it. Burks and Hayward and Burke will likely make moderate improvements over last year, Kanter may make larger improvements depending on how much of last year he was hampered by his injury for real. Favors will be favors. The new guys will play like new guys. No MIPOY here.

The 6th man goes to the player that makes the biggest impact off the bench for his team, but rarely is the 6th man playing on a sub-30 wins team. If ever.

Sorry guys, maybe I am just pessimistic, but I just don't see this season being really any better, or even much different, than last season.

But I really really hope I am completely wrong in which case I will happily gobble down that crow cold and quivering in its own blood.

But I don't think I will be wrong in the end. And that's ok because I envision is getting markedly better after a full year with QS at the helm. Go Jazz!!!!!!!

Wow, I used to like you LogGrad. Now it feels like I saw you run over my dog...on purpose.

We have some pretty big crows in my neighborhood. I'll catch one for you.

Even if it turns out you are right I have just decided that you are a retarted killjoy. The apparent contest to be the most pessimistic around this place is getting so stupid that I'm not far away from being done.

Also, Snyder asked me to let you know that you suck.

I follow this team for enjoyable entertainment, and that's not what I'm experiencing on this site even though the team is now so much fun to watch. Have you ever been reading a book and decided that it sucked so you put it down and never returned? That's where I am.

I have so much fun following this team with my friends, and also with some of the people on this site, but then the Debbie Downers start coming out of the woodwork. When the Jazz hit a bad streak, which they definitely will, I do not want to listen to all of these sourpusses feeding us their idiotic "I told you so" mantra.

You could always just ignore them...

I'm seeing way more positivity than negativity since the start of preseason

I wasn't even being negative if you actually read my post through your deluded blood hazed eyes. I just realistically view the team as I see them. They will be fun to watch even during the bad stretches. But they aren't going to take the league by storm. And anyone who has been around long enough to know me knows I'm no debby downer and I'm not just sitting around hoping they fail so I can "told you so" to everyone. I'm hoping I'm completely wrong and I will happily chow down on stifle's huge crows. I am actually trying to temper expectations so we can avoid the inevitable fall out and negativity when it turns out we aren't going to go 80-2 and win the championship by default.
