So far his on man defense from 15 ft and beyond has shown tremendous improvement from last year, and his effort has shown it too. Last year his opponent shot a few % higher than league average and this year it is -1.5ish. His inside d #s are way worse. Likely because not having Kessler behind...
IIRC in the 90s it was around 54/55. I was curious a couple years ago and during prime Stockton years he was averaging around 65% which was top 10-15 all time I think. I wish he would have shot the ball more.
Maybe I watched a different game. You posted Key scored 31 with Thompson as his primary defender. He scored on a backdoor cut on Thompson and off a screen where Thompson got switched away and Key scored on Stewart in the paint. Those are the only two scoring possession I recall where Key scored...
I just want the young players to get a lot of burn and opportunities to make mistakes and grow on offense.
I also want more accountability on defense. The lack of communications and rotations is abysmal.
I didn't like the Hardy hire, but he acquired a dumper fire.
The lack of defensive rotations is what drives me crazy. Teams have been feasting from 3 with wide open warm up shots. Talent is a factor, but this is far beyond that.
I'd also like to see a lot more off ball movement and paint...
Ace needs to get a better feel for how to play defense in the floppy foul drawing NBA where defense is a sin.
His feel on offense is pretty good. He sees the court, and his passing/vision is great for a SF.
I think he'll be able to create for himself when hr tightens his handle and learns...
