Exum Update

I'm way late on this, but thought I'd respond.

A) We gave an update on Twitter on Friday (before your post) that what's been keeping Neto in concussion protocol is his left knee bone bruise. He can't pass the concussion benchmarks because of that knee injury. Hope that helps.
B) We have asked everyone, on and off the record, about Exum's return. The real answer: nobody knows, not even Dante! Dante's trying to get back this season, but it depends on him passing a barrage of physical tests. Everyone hopes he can do it, and even thinks it's likely, but they won't commit to a return date, or even a timeline, because his progress is dependent on passing benchmarks. I've tried to keep you updated on that he's traveling with the team and playing video games and doing rehab, but honestly, that's just not that interesting of a story.
C) If you'd like a specific question asked, let me know on Twitter. I try not to ask a question I know the answer to, so if I can help, I will, and if not, I'll ask the player or coach if possible.
D) Re: national writers breaking news. It's frustrating. In general, the national writers break that news through relationships with the player agents involved, which, truthfully, I don't get much of a chance to meet with to develop a relationship with. I do have relationships with players, coaches, and front office people, but again, they know less than you think, I think.

Whats your feeling on how the FO view Exum? Is he still in the long term plans of the team?

Andy Laesen is my hero I see him on twitter!

Dante tore his a.c. joint in his shoulder if I remember right. The average return is 12 weeks. Unless you play for the Utah Jazz then your injury will take at least 24 weeks. So he should be good to go March.

I was glad to read Raul is not seriously hurt in his head, i was really starting to worry for the kid .

However, now i am very curious about the NBA concussion protocol. And why a knee injury prevents him from passing.

Of course i am still wondering why Jazz cleared Favors to play but Cavs doctors said no minutes before tipoff.

Im not on Twitter (its just a fad that will go away, like microwaves in the 80's), but i read Andys tweets and his triple team game recaps on ksl...good stuff.

I reckon it'll be onelove, there's a hell of a lot of sheep in New Zealand, saucy ones...

Does anyone actually know how old onelove is? 18 19?
I just saw a news clip that sheep can recognize faces. Will some of our Jazz fanz posters get caught up in the soon-to-be scandal as these sheep start to come forward?

Jazz are just following the Boozer protocol: no player can return until twice the projected rehab period, unless the recovery time extends into the off-season, at which time player is deemed completely healthy and cleared to travel to the vacation destination of his choosing.

Raul should be completely healthy by May. There's no reason to be concerned he'll miss his romantic voyage to the Bahamas with his big buddy, Rudy.

Better question might be why does Utah have the worst media in the country?
I've lived in several different sports markets in the U.S. And I'm just astounded that the SL Media only asks the softest of questions. It's frankly embarrassing that the national writers are generally the ones to break anything major or even minor about the Jazz.

What about Exum? We haven't even heard anything about Neto and his lingering concussion symptoms. Whether it's health of players or any other topic that MOST media in the US would try to investigate, Utah media just shies away from it. They're all controlled or even employed by the Jazz - and that makes them useless and pathetic...unless all you're interested in hearing about are game recaps and "feel good" stories.

Oh yeah, probably can hear more about a player by checking his Twitter account.

I've got a theory about why they call them "beat writers." And it has to do with them spending more time engaging in a certain activity than actually covering the team.

Disrespectful and inaccurate. We have some excellent local coverage of the Jazz.

Have you lived outside of Utah? Non-Utah media often asks tough questions instead of tossing softballs. They tell it like it is in larger markets. Not afraid to criticize an organization or take it to task. Are they always right? No. But the Utah media is largely employed or at least heavily controlled by the team. You aren't going to get much objectivity or criticism. They are, for the most part, "yes men."

Because part of the test that clears you from concussion protocol probably requires him to run through some physical exercise, which he cannot take because of the knee.

Interesting, the only concussion protocol I know much about is college football, and that almost exclusively from Kyle Gunther mocking it. Apparently, they do some cognitive tests and compare them to a pre-season baseline. Players learn to dumb down their baseline so they can more easily pass the in-season tests.

But I believe it has multiple steps. They do the cognitive tests and have you work out and do the cognitive tests again to see if the activity and bouncing around has triggered any symptoms. Or something along those lines.

You nailed it on the head. The Jazz own the media. That is a lot of why they are so terrible. The other problem is, the media is vastly underpaid and none of them have dreams of moving up, so you have a lot of lazy, poor employees. The Zone is the perfect example of this.

That being said, Lynn Worthy is great. KSL has some good ones. But a lot are just terrible.

Notice how the Philly media got to the bottom of the Fultz injury/non-injury relentlessly at every opportunity. Wait, they didn't. Nobody still has any idea what is going on there.

Okay, serious question here.

Who’s gotten laid more recently? Andy Larsen or OneLove?

Andy, if you’re not familiar with OL’s work, peruse the site. Also, to help answer my earlier question, can you let us know the last time one of your trim hunt’s proved fruitful? Kinkkkk, you too. Don’t hold out on us.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Local Jazz beat reporter (and probably the best of our beat reporters) comes to Jazz Fanz to specifically answer questions of a forum member, effectively giving us a mainline conduit to the team, players, and coaching staff and your first instinct is to trash talk him?

Regardless of whether or not you're joking, you're a moron.

Yeah that is kind of a dick move... whether or not you like Andy its cool he comes in from time to time.

I mean, what do yall expect from injury updates? I'm sure reporters ask questions, but the Jazz have no reason to inform them on every detail of a player's rehab progression and process.

I'd really like a tongue in cheek update that Exum is out with a shoulder injury with no timetable for return everyday.

Pretty NBA teams have decided to be as vague as possible in regards to injury as way to protect themselves and the players. Any solid timeline leads to expectations and if those arent met, the player is soft or the team ****ed up in some way in the public's eyes.

No. I've only ever lived in Utah. In fact, I've never even set foot beyond the block of 3300 S and 1000 E in SLC. Literally. And I'm also not capable of reading sports coverage for any other team in the NBA despite its wide availability on the internet. Isn't that weird?
