What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Anyway, I think it depends on what we do. If we presume we bring in a 20 ppg person, then I only see Conley and Love being those guys (could make a strong argument for Niko but so far DL has passed him up twice and probably not any more excited about him now that he’s out of sight and out of mind).

If we trade for Conley, then you offer the full MLE to Jabari.

If you go for Love, then you sign Beverley with the MLE. It even makes bringing back Rubio reasonable because you have a lot of options between the two and not overly reliant on either one.

I suppose a trade could land you Galo, but I don’t believe it’d be in a trade with players (because LA would want cap space), so it would be absorbing Galo into our cap space, which would prohibit us from having the MLE, so it’s not realistic.

Other guys that are good targets afterward:

Terrence Ross
Dewayne Dedmon

*again I’m not advocating a Love trade as much as I’m acknowledging its realistically high probability.

True. I guess we could find a way to keep Rubio to go with Love. So a trade for Love would likely be:

Favors, Exum and a 1st for Love

Then we pay Rubio to stay.

No thanks

This is the trade I think happens except we also include a second, because they know DL is desperate.

O'Neale and Mitchell are not very close from a trade value standpoint and if you seriously think that the organisation should consider O'Neale closer to Mitchell's untouchable status than Gobert then you're severely undervaluing Gobert. There's no way in hell a young role player on a nice contract with potential but hasn't shown All Star level talent like Mitchell or an older glue guy coming off a down year should be considered more valuable/untouchable than a DPOTY C, and your reasoning only speaks further to why Gobert should be considered more untouchable than O'Neale or Ingles in the first place but you're ignoring that because of Favors.
He was saying Oneal and Mitchell are close relationship wise, not value or ability wise.
I think anyway

Why is it a high probability though? Is DL the dumbest gm that ever lived or something?
He would have to be to have a high probability of trading for the worst contract in the league. (Though walls is probably in the running)

Edit: John wall contact is worse. Lololololol at that ****ing thing. The wizards are ****ed forever

John wall has 4 years and 169,344,000 left lol.
When he is 32 years old he will make 46,872,000 in that one season. Lol.
He has the best agent in the history of the world.

No. I’ve been saying DL was a top three GM for a couple years and that hasn’t waivered. But he’s been valuing potential success over tangible success for a while now. Ever since we knew Donovan was ready, I’ve advocated we needed to switch gears. He was at the bar but didn’t want to commit to any girl because he thought something better could come along, and he didn’t want to cash in his chips. Well, it’s nearing closing time and there are only a couple people left. While Love has a lot of baggage, DL doesn’t really have the option of going home alone.

We have 2 games left in the season and (in my opinion) we need a big blow up. Rudy will be 27 next season and we really need to maximize him before he 'may' want to leave.

So, what do you do?

Claim "our chemistry is really solid and we need another year to get healthy." Sign a 35+ year old vet, a g-leaguer, and a draft pick to call it a season?

Do you shoot for the stars and throw contracts out there for Kemba, Tobias, etc and hopefully land one?

Let's hear it.

I'd go for Kemba and open up the market to literally everyone on our team signed the following season not named donovan or rudy.
I'd call the pistons and offer favors, jae or ingles, exum, Allen, and this years pick and next years pick for Blake (should get it done). Probably sign neto again, get another backup on the cheap and fill in the rest with some shooters.

Kemba
Donovan
Ingles/jae
Blake
Rudy

That's a great starting lineup with still royce, neto, korver coming off the bench. We can create, Blake Kemba can score, gives us great spacing

I have yet to hear why you think it's smart to blow up a 50 win team.

There has to be other bad options available that aren't as bad though.

Kevin love is 30 years old, way overpaid, injury prone, horrible defender, AND coming off his 2nd worst shooting year of his career. This season he played 22 games and shot 39% from the field (Rubio shoots 40% lol) and 36% from three (not much better than jae).

No ****ing thank you

He will make 29 million at 34 years old. There are still 4 years and 120,400,000 dollars left on his contact.
Worst contact in the league.

Lol not even close. In the league where John Wall and brain ded Wiggins exist, no way a guy making 30 mil and able to give you 20/10 on any night is the worst contract. Aging Chris Paul makes 40 mil a year, that's right there is worse than Love. He's not even that terrible as a team defender, just an individual he's athletically limited, kind of like Korver. But he's a top end defensive rebounder, that's why he rates well in defensive metrics.

I would sacrifice Rubio to gamble on Jabari Parker before I sacrifice Favors, Exum, 1st and all that future flexibility for Kevin Love.

And it's even possible that Rubio stays on a smaller deal for a year.

DedEx, Korver to a 3rd team, Allen, Bradley and a draft pick satisfies the salary rules if trade completed before the draft. No need to send Favors, Cavs don't even need him. Crowder can be substituted for Korver if needed.

Had we actually sent Exum and Rubio, we could have traded for Love this offseason, but now that’s unreasonable. I would have supported going all-in with Conley and Love.

Conley
Mitchell
Ingles
Love
Gobert

I could live with Conley and Jabari. DL is probably pretty rigid in his thoughts on Jabari, though.

So many players can give you 20/10 on any given night if they get the minutes and the touches.

What you want is an efficient 20/10 on a consistent basis. Also want a guy to be on the court who also isn't over the hill who also isn't on a max deal.
Ain't getting that from love

Who? Unless Griffin goes on the block, there’s nobody in that “caliber.”
What caliber? Over the hill, broken down, and overpaid?
I think it's a good thing that there's nobody in that caliber
I say go for players not in that caliber

Good. Backyard needs new trees next spring but the yard looks good. The wife is good. The kids (3 of them dummy) are good. Real vacations are nonexistent this summer but we'll probably do one or two 2-4 day trips.

You? Still being a little bitch and not drinking?
Unfortunately, no, not a bitch. Not strong enough it smth.

Love is a guy who shoots like Rubio, is paid like LeBron, and as healthy as Exum lol. (Some hyperbole there obviously but you get my drift. Not a very good player, paid like a superstar, injured. Oh and old)

So we trade our backup PG, a shooting wing, an emerging PG/SG, a young cheap C and a pick so we can pay $72+ million on 3 guys who all should probably be playing C?

Think about next year:

Love $30+
Gobert $25
Favors $17+

Why?
