Gobert's whole career he's been pretty mediocre at FT shooting. Not bad enough to be a "Hack-a-Player" type dude, but not good enough to really force feed if you know he's going to get fouled.

This year his form has taken a big leap towards being a more "textbook" release. It looks like an actual NBA shot from a NBA player. In December he has shot 75% from the FT line and if the season finished today, it would be a career high in % and attempts per game.

If he can finish the season at 70%, he will become a "solid" FT shooter, but can Gobert even become a good FT shooter? By good, I'm thinking 75% or better from the FT line.

If good means 75%+ I'm pretty confident that he'll never get there. Hope I'm wrong. I've always thought he should be a decent FT shooter though pushing up against 70%. He's got good form and a decent routine.

His form has always been solid, but wildly inconsistent. Like top 1% in terms of changing minor details of his release from shot to shot.

That's the biggest change this year. Shot to shot looks more like the same release with the same arc, though it still changes from time to time.

League average is 73%. At best he will be average, which would be good for him. If he went the Rick Barry route maybe he could surpass that.

I voted before I saw the 75% criteria. I don't know if he'll get that good, but I think he can get around 70% which for a 7"+ player I consider very good. What is the average for players 7" and above?

Not sure. I guess we’ll have to wait for the first couple of 7” players to make the league and start generating some data for us.

If he can stay above 68% it is enough of a threat to avoid the hack-a-Rudy defenses and enough to punish them, for going at him too hard. I think he will top out around 72%. If he did get to 75% that would be monumental.

As it is we need to feed him more. Establishing his inside game as a threat early is the best way to open up the perimeter. In the games we didn't do that, like the one that was shown 17 times we could have thrown him the ball, they can just sag anyone down in the paint and cover the perimeter much more tightly. And Rudy shooting 70%+ from the free throw line makes this a viable threat.

Rudy works extremely hard, so it wouldn't surprise me for him to keep improving. Getting above 75% seems unrealistic, but maybe not.

Gobert has always felt like a much better 4th quarter free throw shooter vs rest of the game and so I checked to see if the stats agreed:
1st qtr - 72%
2nd qtr - 60%
3rd qtr - 70%
4th qtr - 77%

I hope you are mixing Jazzfanz with Clutchfans/Rockets forum.

If not, medically speaking, exactly how dinky is your wang?
Nah, CF is pushing 3" maybe, on a good day when they didn't just get out of the pool.

I wouldn’t bet on it, but wouldn’t at all be shocked. I think the Mailman came in to league way worse at free throws than Gobert, and topped out around 80%. Rudy seems like almost as hard a worker.

Haven't all of them been in the category of '7" and above'?
I was in a rush to make fun of him. Had to pop out the first message that came through my fingers before somebody beat me to the punch. I wish it had gone better, tbh.
