Rudy the Beast

Lopo really post in a Gobert appreciation thread about some old *** dude who played with people who dribbled like Stanley from The Office.
Read the thread. People were comparing Rudy to Wilt earlier in the thread. It's completely ridiculous because Wilt was an athlete unlike any other.

Yeah and Gobert is just the common 7'1 7'9 wingspan extremely mobile elite defender you see everyday.

Rudy is amazing. And I give him credit.

Rudy does not have a 48 inch vertical. Ran the 220 hurdles in college. Bench pressed over 500 pounds. Was a high jumper. Etc.

The above are verified facts by the way. Rudy is really good, but no he's not Wilt. Not by a long shot.

Gobert has won it too many times (combined with getting robbed with second places) in a row. It's pretty much impossible for him to win it this year unless we're the best defensive team by a mile. Especially considering we melted in the playoffs after being the #1 seed against the clippers and especially in game 6 with an impossible to lose lead when the narrative is that Gobert was exploited and that lost us the game. There is no way for him to win DPOY with this years regular season accolades. He needs to win in the playoffs big to get this again.

Gobert is the defensive player of the decade though. But I think Green deserves it this year so far.
Gobert going to win it based on the Detroit game

Yes, Wilt was a vertical pop, up and down athletic monster. He didn't have Gobert lateral quickness and he never had to guard elite athletes every single NBA game. Those are facts.
Rudy has better lateral quickness than Shaq. Doesn't make him better.

Wilt was the most physically imposing center to ever play the game. Stop man. Just stop.

There is a small part of me that would almost like to see the Jazz go without a month or two of Gobert.

Then when the Jazz immediately tailspin down the standings due to their historically god-awful defense, maybe then people would finally realize: "Oh, Gobert has a superstar impact"

Lateral quickness matters way more to basketball than the **** you posted lmfao.

Wilt is the Russell Westbrook of centers who played against a bunch of dudes who wouldn't even be in the G League.

And I looked at the thread. You're the one who brought Wilt up lmao. That would be like me bringing up Jerry West in a thread about Donovan Mitchell. That era of basketball is irrelevant other than it being what it was, a stepping stone to get to actual elite physical competition.

I brought up Wilt because people were talking like he was the best defensive big man in the history of basketball.

Sometimes, people just need perspective.

I am wondering if the current situation will bring an end to the absurd narrative that getting a good back up center is easy. Our entire offensive and defensive scheme is built around a particular kind of center and the center position is more important in Utah than any other team in the league. Finding the right back up who will come to Utah is a big deal.

The thing is, even if we had had just Doke available, we would have at least been competetive. Anyone 6'10" or bigger would have made a difference. So the fact that all of our 3 7-footers were out was very very significant. But almost any warm body bigger than Ingles would have made a huge difference for us. I think when we talk about a backup being available on the market we are talking about the fact that players like Whiteside and McGee have been available every year that we spent a draft pick on a slow plodding big man with limited skills and likely for less money.
