Clippers could become sellers

The combination of injuries to their best two players could lead the Los Angeles Clippers to become sellers ahead of the deadline. Paul George sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Kawhi Leonard is rehabbing a torn ACL.

The front office of the Clippers approached Steve Ballmer this past offseason about treating this 21-22 season as more of "a gap year," league sources told Bleacher Report, and Ballmer gave his approval. This strategy has become called the "Warriors model" in which a contending team uses star injuries as an opportunity to reset.

The Clippers, however, owe their unprotected pick in 2022 to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"They're pretty much open for business for anyone except their main guys and Terance Mann. I think they really are fine falling out of the playoffs and regrouping for next year," said one Western Conference official. "I think they're trying to shed the Marcus Morrises of the world, guys that have some value and maybe can replace them with younger talent, maybe cheaper [contracts], to free them to get someone else this summer."

Anyone the Jazz should be interested in? Nicholas Batum springs to mind.

Id love Morris just for the fact I think he would be a vocal leader along with Gobert on defense. I don't get why Clips would deal him when he has two more years left on his contract

Didn't Morris bad mouth Rudy recently
He might be worse than Simmons
Nah, he badmouthed our entire team's defense outside of Rudy, saying they were all terrible defenders disguised by Rudy. I couldn't think of a better way to drive that point home to everyone else than bringing that guy on board.

So is Morris a decent defender

I don't know either... unless Balmer is actually concerned about money for the first time as an owner or if Morris has worn out PG/Kawhi and they'd like him to move on. The whole idea of them being sellers is kinda dumb since they owe they pick to OKC. I mean sell off pieces you don't want back or with expiring contracts. Maybe they are concerned with Morris' injury history... maybe they'd only move him for an awesome deal.

I think he is likely one of the last pieces they sell off... I think Ibaka, Batum, Bledsoe for sure are fairly easy to get. Likely wouldn't mind moving Kennard in the right deal.

Morris is not being traded to Utah. Have to end that discussion because it won’t happen.

Batum on the other hand? Yeah I could see that happening. If Ballmer wants to push his spending to the max, he’ll want to move Ibaka in a deal for a player with future salary.

If they go the other direction with salary, I could see them wanting out of Kennard’s deal.

With the Clippers and Denver fighting injuries, this would normally be a good year to push the gas and try to get out of the West.

Trade for Morris. Jerry West has to have some cognitive impairment by now.

Batum doesnt move the needle unless that needle is to the retirement home. Jesus. We need to get more athletic and tougher. We have enough wily vets.
