Game Thread Jan 17, 2022 08:30PM MT: Jazz at Lakers

Added to Calendar: 01-17-22

I was going to write a long post about how much I hate the Lakers but I REALLY have to go to the bathroom right now, sit on the toilet and grunt out a new Lakers fan.

Man I wish I had gotten tickets to this one. But they are so overpriced it is hideous.

For the records, the die-hard delusional Lakers fans in my office are all in a funk this season. Some of them are still convinced the Chosen Ones will still win the ring, but most are just sullen about it and won't discuss it. I went around this morning talking about the game tonight and garnered a lot of nasty looks and despondent stares. I cannot tell you how great that feels!! This is the well-spring of schadenfreude, and I am drinking my fill!!

When we win if you don’t start a full on office fight tomorrow you can consider yourself a failure. With all the mental illness and the Lakers fully infected with the Westbrook Virus now is the time to break them. 1642444711850.gif

I have a bunch of Jazz stickers I plan on plastering all over everyone's work space. Come in early and put one on the top of every monitor in the place. Find a youtube video of the highlights and put it on a loop on the TV in the breakroom. Saturate them with it. Cannot wait!

Lakers have the worst defense in the league right now. Dwight Howard has been looking like a shell of his former self. Rudy should dominate in the paint, and the Jazz should win this going away.

Expect Lakers' fan quotes saying how much they'd like to have Jordan Clarkson back.

Lots of Lakers fans are in denial, I expect some chippy responses that should be a total blast to read. This will be the best @JazzAvenues thread in a while.

Looks like Conley will play.

Dumb… the strategy to begin the year was sit him because we need him when it matters most. Strategy is working and we just can’t resist deviating. It’s just kinda silly. I realize he didn’t play a ton last night… back end of a road-road back to back is the time to sit him. Whatevs.

He only played 23 minutes and he hasn't been getting much minutes in B2Bs. I would love for him to sit so we see others but I also get the thinking that if the Jazz need to improve perimeter and team defense they need to it as a whole.

I've been pumped for this game all season. I really enjoy the Jazz having a good team. I might enjoy the Lakers having a bad team even more. I love watching the Lakers when they suck. Usually it annoys me when the media over-covers the Lakers. But not when they suck. I can't get enough of it. I will skip to the part of a podcast where they just talk about how much the Lakers suck. It's euphoric. they have no way to get better, no trades to make, basically screwed themselves for this season and the next. You can tell it's getting really toxic. Lebron is doing all the Leantics he does when his team sucks (even though it's the team he built and the guys he traded for). The Lakers are a runaway train about to fly off the tracks. I can't get enough of it.

I'm not going to be overconfident. Not going to jinx it. Who knows what could happen in one game in the regular season. Jazz are on a back to back. They could lose this game. it should be a fun game either way. the spirit of sportsmanship and all that.

I will say, every night I pray the Jazz get to play the Lakers in the first round. That would be so, so fun.

Full rest days are so much better than just lower minutes though. Its just short sighted. We need to improve our perimeter defense for sure… but we also need to get Joe going… starting could help him snap out of his funk.

Has nothing to do with me wanting to see other guys play… just want to “be our best at the right time” like Quin seems to preach when we lose… maybe they have great data to support the change but I’d still rather have them be overly cautious with Mike.

Sure, I don't disagree. They are finding some middle ground, though. I just get what the point may be.

Getting Joe going is sophisticated. He feels different and starting could give him more pressure. I am not sure that's beneficial and he needs to be good at his role. He is not a starter talent anymore so Jazz can't accommodate him. Starting Ingles may make him better but it doesn't make the Jazz better.

Oh, I would love to see the other guys, lol. Getting to play right way at the right time may require backcourt to play together so they fix the things together. There isn't much practice time in the NBA as far as I know because of the 82 game schedule so using game time is necessary.

I agree. With Mike's history of hamstring issues, you can never be too cautious. I also agree that giving Joe a start could spark him and get him going...he's been much better as a starter this year.
