Trade deadline discussion

Morey will probably hold Simmons until right before the deadline, why wouldn't he, it's the smart thing to do, any trade available to him now would be available to him then and there are a lot of desperate, underperforming teams that might decide to make a radical change--and I think the league is basically on hold until that trade manifests itself. If we make a trade i think it'll be right before the deadline, the league is probably gridlocked until the big trade goes down.
I think the deals almost all wait until the last minute when teams can get their best offers. I don't think Ben is holding up the market... probably certain teams though... Boston, Minny, Sacramento, Philly (obvi)

Tomorrow could be a big night for Jared Butler with Donovan out... a couple good games can really inflate a young players value... add in his pedigree and pre-season performance and a couple good games could really give him a boost.
or Quin can give JC and Royce 45min apiece

Of course we likely just play Forrest and Jazz media gets super excited about his 3 point 5 rebound performance in 27 minutes.
I don’t see JB getting any significant amount of minutes. We’ve lost 5 of 6 and it’s really important we win this one so you gotta go with the known (Forrest) and not fart around and try something cute like playing someone whose both unknown, but also someone Quin already knows everything he needs to know about.

We just resigned house. Butler won't see the floor.

If Butler is available, I predict at least 10 minutes of playing time. Ainge gonna call it down to Quin... I'd be good with House playing too.

Yep. Joe and JC are going to get extra minutes and Forrest and House are both going to get minutes over Butler. There's a good chance Quin doesn't even put Butler in unless it's a blowout.

So Detroit are wanting 2 1sts and or a young up and coming player for Grant … plus Grant wants to go somewhere where he will be the focal point … definitely not Utah

A guy I’d be looking at is Harrell from Wiz , can be had … gives us a brut , rebounding , and some much needed toughness.

Harrell is not a good fit next to Rudy, more than anything, he’s an undersized center

Nah he does everything you’d want in a stretch four except the stretch part.
and defend.

I actually kinda like Harrell. Amazing roll man and great offensive rebounder. He is a guy I could see being able to punish small ball defenses with his screen setting and offensive rebounding. I would absolutely get cooked on the other end of the floor, especially with our personnel. I'd have to look at how he actually does against small ball type lineups because its all theory based on his game and not actual observations. There is a chance you could just outscore the other team when he is in. I am not sure Whiteside is playable in the playoffs. I would truly only be interested as a JC trade partner since his contract expires and it would be prudent to get off that deal. I think Harrell could make sweet pick and roll music with Joe Ingles... the defense would be uhhhh... not great.

Montrez would qualify as an ******* though... and the energy that guy plays with is something else... might get us going some nights. I do wonder if one day he figures out a couple things on defense and then becomes an under-rated dude. In general I think I'd enjoy him as a backup 5... but it'd be a marriage of convenience and not something I'd be looking to acquire.

Alright... so here is my half baked trade idea of the day. Caris Levert was pretty over-rated in the past and it seems like things have turned on him a bit. He isn't viewed with the assumption that he was going to have some amazing development step. I think he could be slightly under-rated now. I think he could have a small bounce like Norman Powell did.

So would Indiana do JC/Butler/Udoka and a lightly protected future first for Caris? Would we have to add a Royce for Craig swap in there? I think I like the idea of Caris more than actual Caris... but I think he fits better with Mike and Donovan than JC. He's younger and is an athletic wing who leaves some to be desired on offense and defense... but maybe with some of the screens Rudy sets and with some decent passers he could take an efficiency jump. I honestly don't know how he is defensively. I get the impression he is averagish... which is a big improvement.

I think Indiana wouldn't turn their nose at JC. He could be the willing player going to the bench that can help them... ain't like cap space does them a whole lot of good. I'd be hesitant to give up Royce.

My other potential shift would be seeing if Mike can do the Manu off the bench thing... if Caris fits well he could start and we would start the game right sized. Obviously Mike is on the court to close games. IDK... its just a thought. Dragic did it with great success a couple years ago in Miami.

The rumors are they are looking for a first and a young player... I think the JB/JC/Udoka plus a first meets the criteria for Caris... So I would not think the Royce for Craig swap is necessary. I would say the pick is top 10 protected in 16 and 17 and becomes a second rounder if not conveyed by 2017.

I'm lukewarm on Levert. I don't think he changes us that much from Clarkson. We would be better, but I'm not sure he's worth burning another first.
I'm not sure either. I do think there is still some potential for a slight bump up in production/effectiveness. He's just never had much consistency in his career between his injuries, the situation in Brooklyn changing wildly, and in Indiana he's had two coaches. It's likely he is who he is at this point... but there is still a slight case for it.

I do wonder if you replace a bad defender with an average one if it looks a lot different because our perimeter defense is so porous. I'm lukewarm but I could talk myself into it if we got him. I think realistically there aren't many guys available with that pick and Caris is one I can see as a realistic possibility. I think you could also slip a Ingles for Lamb swap in the deal that saves us some luxury tax and Lamb is at least good at getting steals. Would be an athleticism upgrade.

I'm not sold on the deal and that is likely a good sign it is in the ball park of fair.

Hard to upgrade this team without sending Bogey or future picks which we simply don't have. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we simply hold tight the expiring value of Ingles contract anyway for luxury tax relief.

Ainge might be willing to simply know the deck is stacked against them for 2.5 years with only Rudy and DM's contract on the books. He'll have to decide if those will be foundational pieces or flip for younger players.

If we're giving up a pick and Butler I would want a bigger defensive upgrade than Levert, who I'm not sure even is an upgrade.
