Jazz vs. Mavs in round one

Obviously our chances of winning increase dramatically without Luka. I'd still much rather play them at full strength...beating them without Luka won't be nearly as satisfying.
If he doesn’t play a win is hollow. It also might give management a little feather in their cap “hey we made the second round and lost to the eventual champs… tough to do better than that?!?!? Fans are so whiny!!!!”

Luka's injury means Quin will now have to prepare for a Luka and non Luka Dallas team. His head might explode.

I think Dallas will primarily play 5 out against us, at least in crucial situations. I think it is a little more uncomfortable for them, and so I'm not as scared of it, but will be interested on how we approach that. Gobert will need to dominate Powell in the minutes he plays.

I looked up Dinwiddie stats and he is shooting 50%/40% in Dallas when he is a career 41%/32% shooter. I think a key for the series is if he can continue his hot shooting.

We're going to have to play some high pressure basketball, and I have no idea how to expect we'll come out ok in those situations.
He's always prepared for every eventuallity. Let me introduce you to a little thing called the Snyder System. It's beauty is in it's extreme simplicity. Basically the exact same game plan against any group facing you in any circumstances, and it's based on the most advanced metrics and game calculations known to man. It's guaranteed to give a winning record over the course of an 82-game season.

Sure you might give up multiple 5-8 game losing streaks, but as long as you play the System every game exactly the same way, eventually it levels out. Check it out, after the all-star break, with injuries and everything, we still won like 3 games more than we lost!

So as long as the first round is at least 82 games long we are guaranteed to advance.

Dallas is currently a -1 point favorite for Game 1 on FanDuel right now. If you think Luka misses Game 1 that could be easy money right there. Basically pick’em at the moment. It will shift a few points either direction depending on his injury diagnosis today.

We are going to win this regardless of what happens with Luka. It is kind of ironic the NBA rescinds his tech so he was able to play tonight and then he gets injured.
In a game that in the end became meaningless... the basketball gods were not well pleased with the NBA catering to whiny bitches.

If Luka misses the first 2 games I could see us sweeping this.......

but based on the season if we stay mentally weak we could go out in 5 if Luka is there.

The series starting Saturday is helpful. Has the rest of the schedule been announced? If it is every other day... then that might be 2 games missed.

Small and not comparable sample... I had a calf strain a week ago... because I am dumb as **** I decided to give it a go... was relatively pain free so why not. Told myself I'd go easy... team was sucking and I decided to make a move... shot a pullup three and immediately felt a tweak. I made the shot but yeah... it aint right yet.

In some ways I feel like a martyr... I did this for you all... you're welcome.

Its a trap... we go up 3-0 and are up 25 in game 4... Dallas goes on a 600-3 run the next 3 1/4 games and we lose.

The last time we faced Dallas was in a 4/5 matchup. We were the four. I think that was the last year of 5 game first round. 2001?

Yes.

Jazz won games one and two in Salt Lake, then lost games three and four before Calvin Booth scores the game-winning layup in game five, eliminating the Jazz.

That was it for the Jazz in the Stockton and Malone era. They would make the playoffs two more times but lose to the Kings both times in the first-round (2002 was actually the last time they did the 5 game first round series... the Jazz actually beat Sacramento in game two to tie the series heading to SLC for game three but then lost games three and four and the series).

We should get out of the first round this year regardless of how healthy Luka is. If he’s out for a week and Dallas blows HC, then this is going to end in a sweep

Agreed. I have been wanting dallas for a long long time. I get my wish.

I actually like the Jazz's chances even if Luka plays the whole series. I'm not a believer in Dinwiddie or Brunson going off enough to win a series. I also think that House, Hernangomez and Whiteside give us the energy and defense we need. Mitchell is going to need to go nuclear again though. Conley and Clarkson are going to need to score well.

If Luka doesn't play, then the Mavs can't really control the pace of the game and get guys their looks on the perimeter.

Clarkson going inside over and over and making the dallas defense work rather than jacking up 3’s will have a huge effect on this series.
Hopefully we get the clarkson that takes it inside a lot.

Mitchell is a killer in the playoffs so dallas loses.

Hasn't... Mitchell won more playoff series than Luka? I get that Luka is a helluva player. But people are making it sound like he's won championships already. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't made it past the 2nd round either, right? Didn't Luka and the Mavs also blow a big lead to the Clippers last year? I get that we really screwed the pooch last year. But we also didn't have a healthy backcourt. What was Dallas's excuse? They had a 3-2 lead and blew the series.

The injury to Luka didn't look very bad tbh. Nagging I am sure but pain pills will probably keep him going strong through the first round from what I saw.
