Gobert to Minnesota

We failed Rudy sorta speak. Wish Minny can finally put together a good environment for Rudy to prove his value in the playoffs

Yeah but remember, it isn't the absolute **** defense being played by every single one of the other 4 guys on the floor, it is the fact that Rudy can't shoot a jumper or put up a decent hook shot. That would have fixed everything! If only Rudy could have generated his own offense, for the 2 times we passed him the ball, it would have turned the tide. Oh yeah that and the fact that Rudy obviously can't guard anyone on the 3 pt line. This video is all lies obviously. The problem is definitely 1) Rudy can't score, costs us at least 4 maybe 6 points per game and 2) Rudy can't defend 3 point shooters. That is the entire problem. Mitchell, Conley, Clarkson, Bogey, O'Neale all getting completely cooked on defense on the perimeter, with more holes than fishnet stockings, was just fine. In fact it is what we wanted. Mitchell can't do both! No one can! There has never been a star that could score and play defense, it is all lies and hype. So Mitchell was completely playing the gameplan while Rudy just stunk it up on both ends of the court. Hell just trading him should add a good 10 games onto our totals. We should win 60 next year easy without that albatross dragging us down, right? Right?

Rudy is a great defender and one of the best defenders in the NBA. Anybody saying otherwise is a moron.

The Conley trade sapped us of all resources to guard the perimeter.

Rudy is now gone. Now we focus on perimeter defending and a faster pace offense instead of what we've been trying to do.

it's never about mitchell vs Rudy. we could've kept them both and build our roster to accommodate their weaknesses. instead we built a roster that exposed them both.

Very true. I was just going back at the prevailing attitude that Rudy was the entire problem, which he decidedly was not. I expect we will end up missing Rudy a lot as the season progresses.

Edwards' game shares a lot of similarities with that of Mitchell's. Of course they've got Towns but it'd be interesting to see what type of approach they are gonna take to utilize Rudy's drop coverage. they not gonna repeat the same "funnel everything" mistake we've made that's for sure

Edwards way better than Mitchell next year

The biggest things that have to happen to the Wolves for them to win a ring:
  • Just play games cuz they are going to win and be dominant

Rudy is looking good. He pulls off a suit like few do. He seems happy and relaxed and at peace with the trade. I wish I could be as happy. I'm still so sad he isn't on my team anymore.

Great post. Especially about how he pulls off a suit. But everything in your post is spot on. Man I love Gobert. His jersey is also my favorite one I own.

I think he's at peace because it was such a toxic environment here. I think the culture was completely ****ed up and everyone hated each other. They hope that cleaning house will help clean up the culture. But my bet is that's why Rudy is at peace. He doesn't have to deal with that **** anymore.

I feel ya. He was nothing but complimentary towards Utah after the deal and he's an all-world good guy. And yeah, he pulls off an Armani like no others. I get the Jazz needing to do that deal, but dude will be missed.

Jazz just became a laughing stock. Max 25 wins. Mitchell demands a trade next offseason. The new 1980-2005 Clippers.

Danny Ainge sucks, what a terrible trade

Screw this. Even though it feels like we got a lot. I can’t believe we traded Rudy.

This is a godfather haul.

This is legit a better haul than the Suns offer for KD.

Hey my bad... I verified. I was wrong and will go kill myself in the most disrespectful way possible.

It was baffling. Same with Don trade packages too. I think people were so in love with the idea of tanking the forgot the importance of winning. This board completely undersold the value of winning and contribution Rudy has to winning while also over valuing the picks they so desperately wanted.

Turns out Rudy is really freaking good, and these picks that we were drooling over were not as valuable to teams that desperately want to win.

KAT and Ant are locked in, but as we’ve also seen players are demanding out with four years left. We might have one of those on our team right now.

As Zach Lowe says, “every trade is a win for the team that’s tanking”. But this league isn’t about tanking or winning trades. It’s about winning games. When there’s a chance to do it, of course teams are going to jump on it. Like you said, NBA lifecycles are short.

Not universally loved and applauded. There is another thread where the picks were called lotto tickets and such... I actually really like the poster so not bumping it. Not gonna dig through all 40 pages and other multiple threads.

Lol I’m pretty certain this is me. I don’t know that I’d fully retract that, though, but it’s about a much larger context of getting back to contention and being far from a sure thing.

Not sure why this is being bumped, but it's fun to be reminded of the "lotto ticket" fiasco lol. When you're talking about star player trades, usually the picks give you a small chance of getting a player you just traded. Depending on the team situation that could be worth it or not worth it. No idea why the term "lotto ticket" caused so much uproar at the time haha. It's a semantics thing, but we all have no life so we argue it to the death.

Looking back on these quoted posts....Not sure my opinion has changed much. Rudy was a freaking beast for us and it was validated by the incredible yield he returned through trade. Rudy hasn't worked out for MIN, and that's where I missed, but I don't think my stance has changed too much. Teams that are trying to win will give up everything to try to win, and they probably should. I respect trying to go all in, but some times you bet on the wrong guy. Love Rudy, it's clear he was not the right guy for MIN and particularly from a personality standpoint. Sometimes you make the trade and it's Kawhi, Davis, or even a smaller trade like Aaron Gordon and that wins you the title. Other times you mortgage the future and it turns into a Clippers or Nets situation.

Ant and Kat are different players than Kessler and Lauri, but it's a simlarish situation where they have two guys and one not being paid a ton yet. I think it's a good time to move some pieces to the middle. I do think the Lowe quote still stands. Every tanking move is considered a win at the time. Every single one, but the point of the league is not to win or lose trades.

I'm right there with you lol. I think from our perspective we see those picks as longshots to return the same caliber of player, and that's true. That's why we'd call it a lottery ticket. But another person might think of a lottery ticket as something you toss in the trash. Meh, who cares.

Its a long story on why this came up... but I definitely shouldn't have referred to you guys as dunces... indirectly. I was salty this AM and looking for blood... when the pre-workout kicks in look out... I'm coming for ya neck.

It's getting boring around here. @Saint Cy of JFC is carrying this board on his back by making a comment every time JHS blows his nose.
