Walker Kessler highlights

While young Mr. Kessler get's his sea legs, I vote the Jazz sign this guy: "On April 10, 2021, in a 118–103 win over the Detroit Pistons, Kanter set a career high and franchise record 30 rebounds, breaking Sidney Wicks record of 27 which he set in 1975. He also scored 24 points in the game, in which he became just the third player in the past 20 years to deliver a 20-point, 30-rebound performance."

Kanter, as in Enes? I'm not sure if you are serious.

I've heard he misses the mountains in Utah though.

If the Jazz don't want to be horrible, they need a veteran center. Hassan Whiteside, Boogie come to mind, but if this guy is a season removed from a 20 point 30 rebound game in the NBA, he must have some tread left on the tires. I would love to see Lebron's reaction when they take the court.

But isn’t that kind of the point, to be horrible this year and see if we can’t grab the brass ring?

Homey I love you man, you’re one of the straightest shooters I’ve seen around here, forthright and transparent without hidden agendas (and tennis is my game). But that’s just a bad take on so many levels. All three of those guys are malcontents - you forgot how Freedom disparaged Jazz basketball?

But even if they weren’t, what’s the point of a rebuild if you’re not developing young talent? Dok has been waiting patiently to get some real minutes. In limited minutes, he looked at least as good as Whiteside last year IMO. I know most you guys hate him because he isn’t Banes but my Philly fan buddy was impressed with his play against Embid and his name came up in the Miami press when it looked like Bam was out the door.

And Kessler and Kofie? All three defend the rim better than Freedom! We good!

Yeah, just say no to penis cancer. Er, free penis cancer. Or something.

If he's good its like Whiteside with less fun and BS. If he sucks he is likely to look a lot like Jeff Withey.

I think he's a much different offensive player then Whiteside. He flashed shooting potential, good rim protection, average rebounding/athleticism. Sounds exactly like Brook

He shot 58% from the FT line in college and like 20% from three... he has not flashed any shooting potential.

Brook was also a highly skilled back to the basket guy in college and like an 80% FT shooter. Kessler will likely be a lob threat, screen setter type. Likely not going to dunk as much as Hassan but I think he will have a similar impact and player type if he works out.

I think with these kind of center prospects it's really hard to tell. It's a bunch of small things and how their body develops. The fact that he is somewhat comfortable shooting is nice. Nearly everyone in the NBA can shoot in practice, so just bring confident enough to take them is a good indicator he could be passable down the line.

I had no idea Rudy had the ability to go from his rookie body to what he has now. Maybe Kessler can do something like that and take his game to the NBA level.

The first step to being a good shooter is taking them in games... so I guess that is "promising". I wouldn't bank on him ever shooting and would focus his time and efforts on being awesome as a rim protector, moving better out on the floor, and being a strong pick setter and roll man. Have him work on his shot in his extra court time... not like he can't still work on that but focus on the other things. Take like 100 threes as a rookie or something around that number.

Everyone jokes about screen assists and the narrative went in a weird direction... but guys that will set a **** ton of screens and do so well and with energy are pretty rare. Especially when like 75% of the time it is freeing up other dudes and not benefitting your stat line. I remember watching a ton of WCS and he set the most lifeless screens... just remember thinking if he had that one thing from Rudy's game he would be a starting quality center. Its a thankless and hard job... I would drill it into Walker's head how effing important it is and show him clip after clip of Rudy setting a screen, diving, nothing happening, and watch him sprint to set the next one... and all of that was after he shut down the driver on defense, contested a shot, and then also worked back into the play to get the rebound.

I love Rudy and will miss him. I think he is in a better situation for success than he would be here... so I am happy for him.

Yeah because of how poorly they used Rudy on both ends of the floor we really didn't know what we had. I am hoping to see him in a situation with a coach that knows how to get the most out of his highly unique skill set and drive. He will be a beast and in the MVP discussion if that is the case.

I think we used him mostly correct. Could have fed him when he had smaller guys pinned down a bit more. Probably should have been more flexible defensively. Definitely should have put better perimeter defenders around him. Waited too long to break up the Ricky, Favs, Rudy trio.

I think in Minny he might spend less time in pick and roll and might see his offensive numbers decline a bit. I could see them being a terror to try and score against. I'm not a huge believer in KAT but i can see how it could work out well. Too many mouths to feed for him to be an MVP candidate, but I could see him winning DPOY by a wide margin. Either way the Minny experience will be bittersweet for me. Either he struggles and maybe gets hurt (bitter) and our draft picks look great (sweet) or he does well (sweet) and those picks become late firsts (bitter).
