What's new

Reverse Pet Peeves

I had a mandatory western region all hands conference call today for all the Field Service Representatives. They told us that they were changing our title to Equipment Service Technicians, bumping all of our current pay to what was the previous pay grade up (so I'm a level 2 and now I'm going to get paid level 3 pay, but still as a level 2) and increasing the pay scale beyond that and giving people raises within the new scale based on merit. I got a 9.5% pay raise and I've been with the company for 6 weeks. I also negotiated my starting salary pretty hard and pushed to get hired as a level 2 instead of a level 1 based on my very strong work history and got a little over 8% more than their initial offer. I'm also loving the new job besides and went from working 12hr night shifts to a M-F 8-5.

Congrats.

Congrats.
Fun part was I sent a text to my wife "I'm not a Field Service Rep for "company name" anymore."

I set my phone down and forgot that I sent that and when I came back I had these texts from her:

?

Is everything okay

Finally got a dayshift postition at work. Not sure when I will actually be moved to dayshift because of backfilling positions and getting everyone trained but I got the position at least. Look forward to being able to watch jazz games on my big screen tv at home again instead of my phone.

EDIT: **** wrong thread

Okay, hitting all green light on the way home from a long work day.

Dang, forgot to post about this last week.

Just had our 30th wedding anniversary. Yes, she is still with me and I hardly have to lock her in the basement to keep her from running away at all. We were actually married on Leap Day, Feb 29th, 1992. So this year wasn't our actual anniversary, that isn't for another 2 years, I think. It has been kind of fun being married on leap day. First, we never forget it. Get married on May 12th or some other random day, and unless it is connected to something important to you, then good luck not becoming the cliche. But leap day is hard to forget. Second, most years as long as you are close to the date it doesn't matter when you celebrate, and that has worked well, especially with a career that has required lots of OT and lots of travel over the years. And third, it is an excuse every 4 years to do something special when the actual day rolls around.

Strange to think back on 30 years. It doesn't feel like it has been that long, and it also feels like I have known no other life than this. We have 4 kids, all out on their own, to varying degrees of success, and one beautiful grand-daughter, soon to be 8 years old. Empty-nesters at 50 years old. Feels weird. Kind of wish we had had 2-3 more years together way back before having kids, rather than now when we are getting old and broken down. But it is nice we can still go do fun things. Been through a lot in that time frame including living internationally and a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Wild how everything just kind of piled up without you realizing it.

I consider myself a very lucky guy. I really married up, she elevates me as a human being, and that is the best thing anyone can do for anyone else, imho.

Just wanted to get that out there as a minor counterpoint to all the negative stuff going on, at least for me, a nice reverse pet peeve, kind of. Anyway, seemed like the best place to post this.

Great post. Beautiful thoughts in there. Congrats bro

Grilled corn on the cob. Oh hells yeah. We've done grilled corn on the cob 4 times already this summer. Walmart has had some really good sweet corn. Grilled corn with mayonnaise and tajin, so elotes one day. Dropped into a pool of tarragon butter another day. One day just plain old butter salt and pepper. I just don't get sick of it. Good stuff.

My mom and dad are in town down from Ogden to visit for a week or so. Love it when they visit, my dad is my best friend, mom is right there too. We get along great with them, my wife and I. We are going to the beach this weekend, dunk a bit and sit around and drink cold drinks and eat snacks and just shoot the ****. Enjoy the breezy 80 degree weather on the coast. Maybe dig some clams to make clam broth. Wade in the water, and go out on the pier. Damn I love that beach life. My wife and my dream is to buy a beach bungalo to retire in. Just need 2.5 million to get a 2 bedroom 1 bath unit that is about 600 sq ft, right?

Weight loss and fat loss…I haven’t been dedicated at all the last 11 months really, not in any remotely sort of Uber dedicated way but I’ve lost about 15 pounds of weight, 14 of which was fat. Gone from 55 pounds of fat to 41. So I got that going for me…which is nice. 191.6 and 21.8% this morning.

Not good, don’t get me wrong, but it feels good.

Yeah, so we’ll never be able to afford that here. I also don’t think we can afford our dream home…now it would probably around 1.3-1.5M…but I think if rates come back down in the next 7-8 years (I’m sure they will), a second house is doable. I’ve always wanted Maine and one piece of upside of Maine (on top of all the reasons I want to get a house there) is rising temps. It’s still cold as balls but there are far more hot days than there was even just 20-30 years ago and that’s going to continue to change. Supposedly.

Our current dream (well my current dream that my wife is going along with for now) is a summer home on a large property away from everyone in South Dakota. It's a little bit of a compromise as I would love to retire to the middle of nowhere, but my wife actuality likes people for some reason. So I said we can live next to people in a city for part of the year and then have a place to escape to for the other part of the year.

My wife keeps saying she wants to move somewhere even warmer than here (SLC). I keep saying I want to move to the middle of nowhere Montana or even Alaska.

Depends what she means by warmer than SLC. I would prefer somewhere that does not have miserable winters like SLC, but also not scorching summers. A nice place that is 70-90 year round sounds great to me, especially if its near water. I want somewhere that has a decent size city nearby but has plenty of open space nearby as well I can escape to. Oh, and a cheap cost of living. Easy enough!

My guess for me that is that is going to end up being south east asia or the pacific somewhere. My plan is to move to another country that I might not like for 4-5 years where we can both make money. Then my wife and I will move to a place we might want to retire and work for a few more years before retiring and running a small hotel with a bar and a gym near the ocean in a good spot.

She wants to keep a house in Shanghai and I want to have a place in SLC so we can bounce around to and make a little money on. We'll see about the SLC side though. It looks hard to find a place. I am hoping both Shanghai and SLC have a small crash soon in housing.

Greetings from Balboa pier and beach. Nice day today. 80 with a breeze. Couldn't ask for more. And today happened to be when like every college cheerleader decided to go to the beach or something. That's a good day.

I've always said the only things I don't like about the beach are the sun, the sand, and the salt water. Other than that the beach is alright.

My work employing Physical Therapists on site for employees to use. (I might have already mentioned this btw). So far they worked to eliminate my tennis elbow, low back pain, and now upper shoulder/lower neck pain. Today they even had a traction machine for my neck that was pretty sweet. I think im all better now at this point.
