I also think they can get their lines crossed then make assumptions... like he has been consistent that we are keeping an eye on Sexton... so maybe its that we have interest in Sexton and also we are fine with keeping Don, but not necessarily that we are trying specifically to pair those two.
I think the front office is likely on the same page or close to it. Get a **** ton of stuff for Donovan or start the season with him on the roster.
September 6th or thereabouts is where we and others really start to show our cards. If nothing happens once we can aggregate the salaries from the Minny trade... then we might be really keeping him and I could see a move for a vet frontcourt player. If we move Bogey, Bev, etc to the Lakers for their picks it shows our hand a bit - though I could see Ainge saying that was a good deal and we will still keep Don and be a 30 win team if we don't get what we want. The big urgency imo is related to cashing in on our vets. I think we could still do it and keep Donovan... we'd still be ******. I'd worry an injury happens or it gets ugly (like KD now or Harden in Houston)... but if the return is like 2 unprotected Knicks picks and 2 protected picks... then you can chance it a bit.
Finally the KD deal gets done one way or another and if the Raps didn't get him then it really opens up the chance they give us a strong bid.
I don't know, Tony Jones reported basically the same thing a few weeks ago, he said the Jazz are much more likely to add Sexton if they end up keeping Mitchell than if they trade him.
