Jazz trade Fonteccio to Pistons for 2024 2nd

We'll see....but I don't think we've really been linked to any player that could help us win. Like the DJ stuff, that's all speculation and I don't think I've actually seen a report of the Jazz being a suitor. Unless that pick is rerouted, they truly dgaf about the play in....which to me is the same thing as wanting the pick.

This isn't to say this is a bad direction to go either....but time is ticking Danny.
Agree with all of this... except we've been linked to Murray through a couple rumor mongers. One for sure with Jake Fisher.

He's 1 year older than Lauri.

It's a bad trade no matter how you look at it. The Jazz became worse, and didn't get anything that is likely to make them better in the future.
I think the Lauri aspect is a little troubling as they seemed like homies. I think they got a fair return but wonder if we will end up regretting this.

But I wouldn't pay the price that he would command at that age for our team...

Jazz cleared roster time for a lottery pick who has played well in nearly every stint (and has a much higher ceiling), collected a pick that is better than a late 1st, and cashed in at peak value on a prospect who was being demanded across the NBA. All with time to spare ahead of a deadline where the team is already awash with assets and financial flexibility. In addition they also are bringing in players with their own potential. They lose on their most balanced guard/forward in terms of shooting and defence -- but the team evidently did not envision him as their long-term answer at the 3 position. Make peace with this and keep your eyes peeled for future moves.

Considering Simone only has a half season of quality NBA play under his belt, it's a fair trade.

I think Simone will have even higher value next year, but I get wanting to have that piece in the 2024 draft so you can open up your movement options.

Maybe 5 years from now the Jazz are contenders and a 26 year old Gabe is the final piece of a contending roster that we add out of Europe.

It's completely useless to discuss if Simone is a "lynch pin". No one can actually tell you what that means. It's just a term. If we miss the play in by one game is he a "lynch pin". If he we don't is he not? Who cares, it's made up.

Fact is, the Jazz just traded their starting SF (we started winning when he was inserted in the starting lineup btw) in the middle of the playoff race. Unless that pick is rerouted, that is a clear signal they don't give a **** about making the play in. Simone helped us win, plain and simple. Trading him for a pick means you are not trying to win more games. It is inarguable (as it stands) which direction this puts the Jazz for this season, it's backwards.

Unfortunately when you get into the business of paying John Collins $79 mil, it only makes sense you will need to make these types of financial decisions.

Hopefully it works out in the end for the Jazz. A very high 2nd + prospect is more than I would've ever guessed Tecc was worth at the beginning of the season.

This was not a financial decision lmfao.

And if they don't give an eff about the play in can we say they have a "clear direction" even if the claims are they are "building around Lauri". It seems more like we are building for the future while offloading guys that are helping lauri right now...
