What's new

Jazz trade Fonteccio to Pistons for 2024 2nd

So we parlayed a free agent signing into a high second round pick in a deep draft, a previous high second round pick, a long & athletic two with a nice stroke, who is stashed in Europe to develop.

How much cap space were we going to invest in Simone during the offseason? I doubt we would match anything over $5m over 3 years. Don’t be surprised if he gets offered $8/ 4.
Simone is easily worth at least 15 million a year with how high money is getting. He's a starting quality player for a team that needs a 4th/5th option wing as a starter (which a lot of teams do).

People have a really warped idea of Tec's value, probably because he spent some time at the end of the bench and out of the rotation.

For some reason everyone seems to be fine with the idea of resigning Kris Dunn, a guy who literally dropped out of the NBA and is the same age as Tec.

I’ll assume you are right on his value. What is the opportunity cost to the Jazz of $15m?

A lot of fans on here won't openly dislike a player until they are off the team. They fear having strong opinions or being called a hater, but will readily **** on someone when it's safe.

Super naive.

Coaches who don’t follow the overarching front office strategy have short careers.
Yes... Will was sitting there thinking "we should play tech more so that Danny can trade him for a super valuable 2nd round pick next year".

It was obvious why Tech was playing. No need to speculate about that at all. I understand a FO will intervene at times to direct coaches but no intervention happened here at all.

Aight, look, I like Simone, but he's not worth 15 a year. Come on man.
15 million dollars is roughly 10% of the cap.

6'8 player with two way ability and high level spot up shooting with some motion ability.

The only way you can say he isnt worth that money is that he doesnt have enough proof of his level of play for multiple seasons.

This is some dark hole of Twitterstans level of dumb. Simone worth only of 2 millions/season? For real. This is borderline criminally bad of a take.

If this is the only deal happening, it’s indeed underwhelming. It would make a lot more sense if there is another trade in the works.

While I dont like this trade at all, I want to remind that we have not 1 but two rookies who could theoretically get some of Simones minutes.
I'm fairly sure that was a large part of the trade, plus the 2nd being essentialy a late 1st and the rights on a player the Jazz are supposedly high on. I think the value was high for Simone and Utah needed to bite.
