Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

Look at last year vs this for Markkanen and its crazy how similar and consistent his numbers are.
2022/23: 49.9% from the field, 39.1% from three, 87.5% from the line, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 0.6 blocks, 26.8 points, 18.1 attempts per game
2023/24: 49.2% from the field, 39.4% from three, 87.2% from the line, 9.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 0.6 blocks, 26.3 points, 17.9 attempts per game

* numbers are per 36. Biggest difference between this year and last year is he is playing 2 less minutes per game.

Considering he's getting a whole another type of defensive attention this season, you could easily say he's improved.

Not sure there's another All Star level player in the NBA who has to endure as much bumping, hacking and holding to get his stats as Lauri.

Agreed. Yet if I had to put money on whether he makes the all star game or not I would bet he doesn't.

I think that it's pretty much a given he's improved and you'd have to argue hard why he hasn't if you'd claim that.

Lauri's playing style (navigating that many screens Steph Curry style while being 7ft) exposes him to a lot of that. But of course there are other stars that take a beating as well. Just look at Joker's arms on any night and it looks like he has a dozen super angry cats at home.

Lol so true

Well, some people even on this board say we should trade him and build from there.
I can see the appeal. First, trade Lauri for a bunch of picks in 2031 and 2035. Then, draft a bunch of players, and then trade them for some more picks in 2042 and 2046. Finally, those players and future picks can be traded for more future picks in 2178 and 2573, and by then, the Jazz will be ready to compete. Hopefully I'll be reincarnated into a Jazz fan by then to see it.
