What's new

2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Every time I watch him, he looks Stockton'ish to me. It's not just that he's ... white PG... the mannerisms and drive, the way he moves and dribbles... the quick and decisive hands on D, the short yet effective crossover, crafty yet somewhat awkward looking finishes with body control around the rim... the smarts all over the court... his shot looks more natural and fluid, especially off the dribble, but lets keep in mind about the difference in the eras we are talking about.
Its pretty much just the crossover for me.

These are edited highlight clips from his senior year, yes, but you can see Sheppard is being used primarily as an off-ball shooter or cutter. In any case, there's nothing here to suggest he's a primary distributor, let alone someone like Steve Nash. The clips with the most on-ball reps are in the 3rd video.

So no, you don't know. That's all you have to say

I'm not concerned at all about Sheppard's passing. He seems to process the game at such a high level, I don't think it will take him long to adjust to a primary facilitator role if that's what he was asked to do. He might not ever be a guy who can break down a defense off the drive, but I think he could become a very effective PNR guy.
And I didn't say that to suggest he is bad or deficient at passing. Lonzo was elite and I don't know that I've seen that. It could be there.

The Lonzo comp was really just in that he is willing to throw the hit ahead pass and move it quickly to the next guy. Lonzo kinda stuck out there as a pg passer.

Also Danny/Will made a point to point out Keyonte never played PG til the NBA, so it's not really a prerequisite. Most HS teams are going to have multiple PGs due to the nature of shorter players being more abundant than taller players, so nearly everyone is coming up as a combo guard.

7.5... take the over.
That's just from Locke...
For the record, I am not advocating for Shep as the next Stockton....but in the spirit of fun some of the plays are just so uncanny. I mean, look at this floater at 4:00 (watch the whole video to see a great highlight game for him). You're telling me that floater is not Stockton esque???

Yeah. I don't think it's even fair to put that on him... especially if he gets drafted by the Jazz... but there are a ton of similarities in the mannerisms and movement and general... proprioception™.
