What's new

Devin Booker?

I don't think we have the type of complementary players that you would want to surround Booker and Lauri with, but obviously it's a lot easier to get those guys vs getting a Booker. If he became available we should definitely go after him, but like you said, we aren't quite ready for that as currently constructed.

Booker refused to work out for the Jazz the year we drafted Lyles. He'd have to offer some assurance to Jazz FO that he'd play nice before we'd tilt the dump bed up to bring him in

Phoenix will move him last. I suspect KD will be the first to jump ship (unfortunately its kind of his thing) unless they can convince Beal to waive his no trade clause.

Say Beal wants out and Suns just want so rotation players to help fill out the roster. Would you do Collins/Clarkson for Beal? 31 next season... 3 years 160M. If he is good and healthy you have a couple pieces to build. If he is hurt you end up tanking but do have a 3 year financial noose.

I think he would only waive the no trade for somewhere he liked a lot but maybe he just wants to get out and prove he is still a good player.
No to beal

How well is that working out for the suns?
They are in the playoffs so not too bad.

The Suns won't move Booker during a season when their pick is unprotected. The 25-26 season may be a different story since they have a pick swap option with a Wizards team that will likely also be terrible. The 25-26 season also makes a hell of a lot more sense for us because right now we have a serious lack of proven talent. This season should be all about getting these young guys as much experience as possible so we have a decent idea of who is a keeper and what type of upside they may have.

Where did you hear that he refused to workout for the jazz? I've never heard that before.

I love everyone advocating for the trade but nobody is saying what they're trading for him. It's going to take at least 4 1sts and players. Is that really a good idea for a team that was worse than the pistons after deadline? We probabaly lose just about everyone for him and then what? He makes almost 50 million a year and his final year is over 60 million. So it would take sexton, collins, and clarkson + 4 1sts at minimum and we dont even know of lauri wants to stay or leave. It's a pass. they would definitely want our 1st pick rounder the next year as well

Plus, he would he the last piece to be traded.

If we suck enough and get Ace or Flagg next season, then I'd be all in. Revisit in 1 year.

Well is he a good defender? The guy can drop 70 but it won't help when we give up 70... at the half.

The guy won't be interested to come to a small market in Utah anyways.

The ship sailed when we took Trey Lyles over him.

He's got 4 years left on his deal, he has no real control.
The NBA wants him in a big market. You can be really dense. Good business for the NBA is strong teams with established stars in big markets and small markets good enough to make people think they might get a 2nd tier star to keep the playoffs interesting. That's it. And it happens that way, again and again and again and again. Feeding the money machine.

How did Donovan get to Cleveland then?

Of course it will be uncomfortable. Stars don't want to be in small markets, but you have to take risk at some point. The Jazz can't wait to trade for a star and also wait for a star who is going to want to come to Utah.

You're in the wrong time line. You do this trade AFTER we get the top pick next year and then you pull the trigger. We do not want to be mediocre again next year

Yep. Any big acquisition should be a 2025 conversation when we hopefully have a lot more proven players.

Well you could try reading the entire OP and see that I said that

Very soon after that draft. Jazz were being widely criticized for taking Lyles over Booker and one of the local pundits spilled the beans about his refusal.
No big surprise, much the same as when Chris Paul had his camp warn the Jazz not to take him. You then draft Williams and on media day explain how you wanted a larger guard who could see over defenses and defend with more physicality.
Media knew what was really up with the selection but went along with the narrative.
Some things never change and beat-level Reporters desperate to remain looped in are one of them.
