Austin Ainge’s entire career path has been paved by his dad, Danny Ainge.

  • Southern Utah Assistant Coach (2007): His first coaching gig came under Roger Reid, a family friend who coached with Danny at BYU and the Suns.
  • Maine Red Claws Head Coach (2009): The Red Claws were the Celtics’ G-League affiliate. Who was running the Celtics at the time? Danny Ainge.
  • Celtics Front Office (2011–2025): He went from Director of Player Personnel to Assistant GM all while Danny was President of Basketball Operations.
  • Utah Jazz President of Basketball Ops (2025): Now he’s heading up basketball ops for the Jazz, where his dad just so happens to be CEO.

The pg position was most definitely not taken care of with Collier and Harkless who isn't even a pg and most likely not even a rotation guy. Also bitching about dumping Clarkson, Sexton and Collins is stupid. We are in a full rebuild and they were in the way.

But how often do you get a chance to get a clutch player who led his team to a national championship and looked a lot like Steph Curry while doing it? I think it was a great move.

If anyone isn’t a real PG it’s WCJ. What makes Collier so good and the reason that he was the top HS recruit in the country was his athleticism and his ability to see the court and to make his teammates better. Beyond lacking the athleticism, looking primarily for his own, with zero ability or interest on the defensive end, WCJ was nothing coming out of High School, and would have gone undrafted without his Senior year tournament run.

And Stockton was also a great shooter and good defender.

I'm not saying Clayton is the answer at pg either but Collier is not nearly as good currently as you are making him out to be. His lack of shooting ability is an issue and he isn't super quick either so I question his ability to break down the defense and create clean looks for guys. Teams are going to start sagging off him similar to Rubio and just daring him to shoot. Personally I would have preferred Kas who I had in my top 10 over Clayton but I do like Clayton over Collier at this point because I think he can be a Jason Terry type off the bench for us. I have Key penciled in as our starting pg.

Not super quick? Really? Not super strong either I suppose? FTR he shot a better % than WCJ last night - see who has the better shooting % at season’s end. But as I’ve said before, only one of these guys is a two way player. It’s all academic anyway as your Jimmer Fredette pipe dream is starting to look more and more like damaged goods.
 
I voted Collier at first..before I saw the stats. I changed my mind I think it’s easier for Clayton to learn what Collier does well than the other way around. You can’t teach shooting like that.

WCJ is a 89% FT shooter. Collier is 68%. That is a very good predictor of shooting success overall.

Collier is not super quick and anyone with eyes can see that. I never said anything about strength. As far as shooting goes it is not even up for debate that Clayton is a better 3pt shooter. Teams are never going to go out of their way to let him take clean 3pt looks. With Collier they will at this point. That is one of the reasons you can't judge strictly by 3pt percentages because one guy may be given cleaner looks by the opponents because that is their game plan while the other is guarded closely to minimize clean looks. It is pretty clear who the opposing team considers to be the much better shooter even though both may shoot a similar percentage.

This is a weird take. Basically you’re saying he would have been undrafted if he didn’t play so well. That’s any player.

But neither is the option for starting material. Clayton might be a good Bobby Jackson like player off the bench. Collier is a premium athlete but his poor decision making and lack of a shot almost make him unplayable. We’ll need to draft a real point guard at some point.

Can Deron come back for a year or two?

The title of the poll is who will be better. I don't think we have enough information to go off currently. I guess I didn't need to comment.

I also don't think you know what logic is.
