2025-26 College football season

BYU won 69-0 vs maybe the worst team in all of college football. Bunch of crazy stats..... Portland state had negative 3 rushing yards for the game. BYU had 468 rushing yards.
53 total yards vs 606 total yards.
But the craziest stat to me is that BYU played 77 dudes in that game.

Oh and BYU kicker has made something like 80 PAT's in a row and 18 field goals in a row including a 56 yarder in this game that would have been good from 60 easy. He might (I mean no way to know) be the best kicker in the country.

Fun, albeit stupid game.

Funniest thing is the true freshman BYU QB new nickname. Quote from the Portland state head coach after the game: “I watched him during pregame because I was hoping that his height wasn’t right or his weight wasn’t right,” Barnum said after the game. “Then I looked at his *** and then his legs. He looked like a goddam centaur."

So some people are now calling him "The Centaur" lol

That’s freakin great. The Centaur. I watched highlights of him from HS. Definitely had insane legs. Looked short though. Maybe 5’11”-6’1”. How tall is he? It’s the Polynesian kid, right?

FWIW Utes fans, I listen to Todd McShay’s podcast. He and his partner (who played OL at Richmond where McShay went as a qb) LOVE two OL on the Utes. The one is a top ten pick…but iirc, I think McShay’s partner said he LOVES the other kid too and at one point said they’re the best two OT in the country. Maybe it was hyperbole or maybe he just meant the best pair of OT’s in the country. But yeah, you could have a good team this season.
This is what most people are saying.
Utes coach says it's the best o line he ever had (he has been their coach forever) and pretty much every person across the country says they are a top 5 o line in the nation.

He is 6'2".
White parent and Thai parent iirc.

He barely even passed the ball in game 1 and didn't play a single snap in the second half. What I did see of his passing left me underwhelmed and a little worried.

Should learn a lot more about him against Stanford though I think BYU wins by 20+ in that game.

Felt like the BYU offense looked like crap last night. And they won 27-3 with a crap offense and covered the spread against a (bad) P4 team. Being disappointed in the team after a dominating game that covered the spread is hopefully a good sign for the season overall.

Defense has allowed ZERO rushing yards through 2 games (if you go back to the bowl game against Colorado last year then it's 6 rushing yards in their last 3 games lol). 3 total points.

Kicker has now made 22 field goals in a row. School record. NCAA record is 30 in a row. Wouldn't surprise me if he breaks that record. (Not sure the exact number but he has also made like 80 extra points in a row or something like that)

Offense needs to improve a bunch for a special year, and it should considering that the QB is a true freshman, bit the defense and special teams should win quite a few more games by themselves.
Bright spots for Bear are zero turnovers through 2 games and he simply ran over a linebacker last night, who squared up and hit Bear with all he had, on his way to a rushing TD. Kid is big and strong.

Now an early season bye week and then their first road test.

So far so good.

One other cool note, one of BYU NFL bound linebackers (both Kelly and Glasker should play on Sundays), Jack Kelly, played his high school football at Kearns high. I was born and raised in Kearns and after bouncing around a bit as a young adult (I lived all over the place from 18 years old to my early 30's) I'm back in Kearns currently.

I would bet that no football player from Kearns has ever played in the NFL. So that's a pretty cool thing for me to watch him play and dominate.

Small sample size alert (and 2 of the teams were bad):

BYU last 3 games:
Colorado ran the ball 19 times for 2 yards
Portland State ran the ball 25 times for negative 5 yards
Stanford ran the ball 24 times for 19 yards

68 carries for 16 yards. Average of 0.24 yards per carry.

I got Texas tech winning 28-21 and BYU winning 27-13

I watched the Utah game today. Pretty disappointing that they are just an average team this year, but I kind of had a feeling.

That Freshman QB from Texas Tech was super impressive. From his opening play where he avoided the blitz and got about 5 yards, he just looked completely cool and in control.

Dang, I was pretty close with that BYU score. 34 -13 rather than 27-13.

Got both picks right.

Bear (BYU freshman QB) showed me something for the first time this year.

Defense is amazing (only allowed 1 TD in 3 games).
Special teams amazing (kicker now with 24 consecutive made field goals and 83 consecutive extra points made. 30 field goals in a row is the NCAA record)

Running back is great. O line is good. If Bear can improve enough then BYU could win the conference.

Also, the true freshman starting QB for BYU has zero interceptions and zero fumbles so far this season.
That is unexpected.

It's not a good sign when the offense has to rely on defensive players to be playmakers. I know some ute fans were excited to see Barton (linebacker) and snowden (DB) making plays on offense but I thought that it showed a lack of playmakers on offense.

Also, Dampier at new mexico last year went 5-7 and had the same number of interceptions as touchdowns (12 each). 58% completion percentage.
Fantastic runner but I was worried about his passing ability.

Having said all that, I think Texas tech is the best team in the conference (unless BYU QB improves a ton and shocks the world) and utah is still a good team with good coaching and a great defense. I think utes will finish top 5 in the conference.

Saw a pretty good trash talk comment: BYU has more Big12 conference wins at rice eckkles stadium than Utah does.

For the bettors out there: BYU is always underrated in vegas odds. Maybe because Mormons aren't big gamblers but last season BYU beat/covered the spread in their first 8 games.
This season they have covered in the spread in all 3 games.
Always take BYU early in the season.

That loss and frankly the last couple seasons of Utah football has really soured my Utah college football experience. For the time commitment that it is like how much enjoyment do I actually get out of it? We are playing a team from Texas we have no history with. The games itself have been a slog with a lot of changes of possesion and I think the cannon guys are probably looking at each other asking if they are going to get to fire this thing? Utah was lucky to have 3 points at half they easily could have had 0 points. Idk, obviously it sucks more when your team is stinky, but yeah it just doesnt seem worth it anymore.
