Best Buy Recap

It's explained in post on this thread

for the Best Buy story, Eric Pincus of Hoops(whatever).com joined the site back around the trade deadline in 2005 and told us that he saw Boozer at a Best Buy in SoCal and told Boozer that he needed to be traded to the Lakers and Boozer replied "we're trying". Since then, Best Buy has become an overused catch phrase on jazzfanz.
There you have it

Perfect. Thank you all!

I can’t vouch for the 2005 story since from February 2004 to February 2006 I was on my JFC sabbatical for my LDS mission, though still lurked occasionally. Really wish the board hadn’t crashed so I could go see if I ever posted over that span. Anyway, I remembered a second story in spring/summer of 2006 where someone else had seen Memo buying a TV at Best Buy. If I’m recalling, I think it was an amalgam of 2-3 legitimate (or at least purported to be legitimate and not meme stories) that all had a Best Buy connection that then turned it into the running meme.

There have been some good JazzFanzisms over the years but none has stood the test of time like Best Buy. Some notables:

“What’s a skillet?”
Pillow fort.
19-13.

These are super old and have similar references...

I wondered if I had posted in that thread. I had.

I worked for Best Buy on 21st south back in 2004 - 2006. I saw a bunch of jazz players come in. Hornacek signed some stuff for me.

I remember saying stuff regularly about jazz players I saw at best buy. And then there was some sass about it. I didnt follow all of the posts but thought it was pretty silly that whatever was said about best buy became a joke.

And then the best buy legend kept going.

I am sure amongst the best buy posts I made there was additional fuel to the fire. But honestly I dont think i read the posts that made best buy legendary.

I think it was the collective more than a singular post. People just not believing one thing or another and multiple best buy jazz sitings and conjecture.
