After the Detroit game, I decided I couldn`t keep on getting mad at winning anymore. It is pretty obvious that the powers that be are trying to get us in a position where we are able to kickstart our ascension to play off-contenders by having a core of what will most likely be the next great Jazz team in place. The plan is to add the next piece in the next draft, but our recent play endangers that pick. Whatever the result, I like the boldness of the front office as this is most likely a much better way to faster have a good team than if we flat out tanked by trading away players again. I`d like to see them trade away Nurkic, but other than that, I`d stay the course and be happy no matter what.

With the team we have now we have all the makings of a perennial play-in team for at least the next 3-7 years. So if we keep winning, we can lock that team in and be fodder for first round exits at the hands of the thunder for the next decade. Yes let's do that! Oh yeah I'm so excited to plant my butt in the seat there to watch that show! WOOOOOOHOOOOO!! Since it's obvious there are no big game targets to go after, and considering the fact that we have pretty much squandered all of our ammo anyway, it's obviously way better we win 43 games a season for the next 7 years than we suck for another 1-2 years then have a shot at some 50+ win seasons. I mean, who wants that? Ugh that would SUCK to have the chance at a 60-win season. I mean, better to be a perennial 8th seed than to have any chance at all at a ring, amirite?

Exactly. Why do that when there's a chance to never make even the play-in this decade? Imagine the accomplishment of tanking for almost a full decade without anything show for it. I'm sure we'll build statues to the Ainges to celebrate that!

It's just tough. These guys are fun to watch when they are on but 5 years of tanking and we want to to start winning now? We tanked all of these years to be a potential play in team? I understand that there's always free agency to add pieces but that's never a given. I'm guessing the FO has some sort of plan but I'm not really seeing it.

Just enjoying watching games
Indeed. Can't do much more. Before the all star selections are made, we can't even rightfully expect Lauri or Keyonte be ok for any number of shady DNP's. It's their one and only career and you never know if there will be another shot ahead. Injuries, real and bad ones can happen.

I'm just happy they finally have started giving Cody and Taylor more meaningful minutes. If and when it's gonna be more of a common place going forward, and Jazz should still happen to lose pick after giving increasing minutes to them, so be it.

Would be stoked to add top 5 pick to this current roster but as there's nothing I can do, would be saddening to stress about it every week, instead of enjoying Key, Lauri, Ace, Walt, Flip etc. putting on a show.

That's tanking for you.

If you don't get extremely lucky, you can't just stop.

The whole "just this one more year" crowd will say exactly the same a year from now, when the Jazz haven't been extremely lucky.

The tanker's plan is always simply to get lucky.

Sure, but the point is to put yourself in a position where you are more likely to hit - or get lucky if you prefer that turn - than if you hover around .500. There will always be lots of luck involved in sports, but that does not mean that you shouldn`t position yourself smartly.

Yes. And the Jazz haven't gotten lucky. Whatever their lottery position, they're very unlikely to get lucky.

Just so we're clear: "Should position themselves smartly" means tanking as long as it takes to get lucky. Three years, five years, eight years - whatever it is.

If someone wants the Jazz to "position themselves smartly" this year, why would that suddenly change unless they get really lucky?

Because you never really now what will happen. None of us predicted that Keyonte 30 games into this season would look like a top 5 pick from his draft class. Noone could know that Kawhi Leonard would gift OKC an all time great player through his stupid actions, and most people did not think that Scoot Henderson would be close to a bust this far into his NBA career.

If Keyonte continues to develop at this rate, we the foundations of a good team and the tank is definitely over after this year. What happens after this I don`t know, but I do know that it will take a lot of luck to get back into contention, as it has done for every other team in the league.
