Isiah Collier Hype and Appreciation Thread

The only backup in the league who dominates the ball like him is TJ McConnel, who is truly a 1:1 type player. But we have the team composition to suit him. What we lack is players who play with the ball in their hands, so having a guy who can only dominate the ball isn't so bad.

The league favoring the "hulk smash" also makes him pretty tough to guard. Bumping into the defender is OP.

These are the most ball dominant players in the league this year. It's TH, Collier, and then a bunch of stars. The biggest difference between TJ and Collier is the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, TJ seems takes care of the ball better and impact his teammates in a more positive way.

I don’t think he really needs to develop his 3pt shot much past 33% as long as he stays explosive and develops his mid game and ft shooting. Don’t get me wrong bumping his long range shot would be huge but with his other tools it’s not going to kill him and stop him from having a great career.
Collier is in the competition for the guard with the worst perimeter gravity in the NBA. He should be able to knock down open threes.

He has the problem of most bad shooters- you can see for stretches he can make them when he remembers to do it the way he's been drilled as late, but then in the scrum of the game he reverts to his natural shot, which kinda sucks. Hopefully one of these off seasons he rebuilds it enough to force him to always use his new form and not revert.

interesting to note, tj has improved a ton since his first couple seasons in terms of his turnover rate. his first two seasons he was worse than collier this year (collier was worse as a rookie), but has cut his turnover rate this year (his career best), almost in half from his first two seasons. with collier's improvement from his first to second season, hopefully he can get gradually better as did mcconnell. mconnell also came into the league 3 years older than zay, so zay has a bit of a head start.

Young guards improving their ability to take care of the ball has got to be near the top of believable developments.

In comparison to TJ, I'd also say that Collier is a much better scorer/scoring prospect. Collier gets a lot of grief for his touch and finishing, but it's actually quite good. 83% from the rim is elite and 48% from floater range is pretty good. He also has a strong FTr. His touch is not as good at others, but he is better at creating easier finishes around the hoop. All that really matters is how much the ball goes in, and Collier passes that test with flying colors. TJ has more range on his middy, but he is not close to the same finisher around the basket.

But IMO, TJ has always been a better defensive player than offensive player. His ball dominant offensive style allows him to survive on the court enough to deliver his value on defense. If he wasn't a strong defender, his offense wouldn't be enough to give him a career. Collier has really got to get better there.

I think Collier's a strong on ball defender. He definitively doesn't get pushed around by any means. He just needs more time to understand the team concept. He's only a second year guy, and I've seen across the board improvements yr 1 to 2, and expect that to continue.
