This just seems way too convoluted. I think the truth is much more simple - the Ainges like Nurkic A LOT MORE than most of us.

You can just cut him if he doesn't agree to buy out. You won't save much/any money but you will save the second... if that's what you want.

I think I've come to the conclusion that they just really like Nurkic. No other explanation sounds reasonable to me. In essence, with this trade instead of Sexton buy out they told us that they value having Nurkic at his salary more than having a second round pick.

Meh, can't you rationalize it the exact same way? "it had to be done.. you clear the path for Hendricks, yada-yada, you strengthen direct competitor for high picks... yada-yada... it's just a second or two we are giving up, etc...

If we had to attach a scond to Sexton to move him, can you imagine how many firsts we will have to add to move Clarkson?

In essence they are telling us they value Nurkic at 19M more than a second round pick and whatever savings we could have had if we buy out Sexton.

Agreed on the second part. I think both the Jazz and Jazz fans should show him unconditional support and love(at least now). This whole mess doesn't seem like it's his fault.

Lets hope he is reading and seeing what's going on... also... keep in mind that he's been around this guy for like... half his life probably. Sometimes it's not that easy to break cycles of abuse ...
