Tanking also hurts players value. In two ways.
1. The players play worse and less often and with varying ugly lineups.
2. Teams know we don't want guys like Sexton, Clarkson, Collins etc messing up the tank so we get lowball offers.

Maybe not explicitly as in the only reason but there is never only one reason to make a trade.
I believe that getting worse was a big reason for the trade.
The post I quoted referred to a situation where if we keep Collins it's another half tank yet I feel like we had Collins on the roster last year (not to mention sexton) and it was a full tank.
Clarkson seems to have got the better deal. He gets to play for a contender and gets more money.
Sexton gets to go to a non contender (probably a non playoff team) and gets no extra money.
This is why a buyout is good.
Clarkson still gets his millions from us, gets some more money from his next team and he gets to go play for a contender.
If I were sexton I would have preferred this route.
