At this point - this trade looks to be one of those rare occassions that worked/is working out to both teams' benefit.
Nets got (and kept) a superstar and credibility to take to Brooklyn, and the Jazz got a wonderful foundation in their rebuilding process. We can judge this move again in 2-3...
Yes but Watson's limited in his leadership capabilities because a) He's a bench player and not a constant on the court b) He was injured and fell completely out of the rotation c) Although he was/can be effective in stretches, he doesn't really have the game that puts him in a position of...
Perhaps since Utah still has the mid-level but they're already at 13 bodies (not counting Raja) and it's still unclear how Kevin Murphy fits into the equation.
Personally I'm a fan of any 6-9 white guy who can shoot like that and then do a discount-double-check, but Korver (who was often crucified on this board) was by far a more complete player than Novak. I suspect we'll be going into the season with a SF Williams/Carroll and SG Hayward/Burks...
I'll fully support the notion that Tinsley may have been the worst PG in the league in terms of individual defense. He had the smarts to guess and redirect but laterally just couldn't really move his feet and once you got a half-step on him it was over.
It comes down to a tough juggling act if...
It's not a wash when contract length is different. In this case it's 2 yrs vs. 1 yr.
I could possibly be the biggest Boozer-support since Sloanfeld left, but Boozer's 2nd-to-last season in Utah he missed 45 games and in the games he did play statistically it was easily his worst season with the...
It's been mentioned repeatedly but the unfortunate part for Harris is right away he went to Dallas and was expected to replace Steve Nash, then went to NJ and had to replace Jason Kidd, then came to Utah and had to replace Deron Williams. He's not a perfect player by any stretch but those are...
Exactly. And as I mentioned earlier in this thread, excessive cap space is precisely what landed Rondo in Boston, Ibaka in OKC, and Hayward here in Utah. For as much as people on this board drool over draft picks, I don't think they realize the value extra cap space has played in landing late...
I'd rep you again if I could.
I think Marvin will have a pretty solid season for us and I do like the size, length and ability to guard 3's and 4's he gives us at the defensive end. A definite improvement for Utah...obviously bigger and more physical than Hayward, younger and more durable than...
Exactly. Marvin was drafted 2nd overall 7 years ago. If you redrafted the 2005 draft, would Marvin go #2 again? Does Manu Ginobili have the trade value of a 57th pick? Utah acquired him for what he is: a serviceable starter with a no-so-great contract who fit a position of need - not a #2...
This. Howard and Smith are great friends having played on the same AAU team growing up.
Sidenote: Their AAU team was called the Atlanta Celtics, and they also had Randolph Morris at the time and simply dominated...and the joke back then (like 2002 or 2003) was that the Atlanta Celtics were...
FWIW Terrance Williams was 3rd, Matt Barnes 5th, Tracy McGrady 6th, Luke Babbit 7th and Dominic McGuire 8th - so it's not exactly like that was a select group. I think Marvin is a very solid player, but seeing Locke tweet out isolated factoids like that is funny to me. Marvin also played PF at...
You can use a massive amount of cap room for alot more than simply signing players to max-contracts. Excessive space is what landed Rajon Rondo in Boston, Serge Ibaka in OKC and Gordon Hayward in Utah.
I think it's more likely Marvin opts in knowing he won't land a $7.5 million salary...
Short-term this is a good move in that it fills a pressing need while only costing Utah at a position they had a surplus in. Longterm I'll only like this move if Marvin Williams does not exercise his $7.5 million player-option in 2013. Granted it's a small step back from the $8.3 mil he's due...
Actually in 2007-08 CJ played both well and efficiently in limited playing time that included a couple of stretches when he was a regular in the Jazz rotation - which resulted in OKC signing CJ to a 4-year offer sheet nearly $15 million that the Jazz ultimately matched.
Same league that gave Jerome James $30 million and Dan Gadzuric $36 million. In this country if you're 7-feet tall you can make alot of money without being good at anything. fwiw, I do like Asik, but that's just ridiculous.
