Sources: Bobby Portis significantly interested in Utah

First, it's impossible to get Tony to say anything about potential players and scenarios. If he's saying something, he knows something. If you follow him, you know how he operates. He hates putting names out there and refuses to do so. Second, anyone still uttering the words 'Jabari Parker'...

Jazz select Justin Wright-Foreman with the 53rd pick

Wow. If he can put that together at the next level... I do worry that he might rely too much on his athletic talent.. but that's a debate for another day. He's officially my dude through the summer.

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

    - #23 this year... whenever the other pick happens, it'll be a late pick. - Jae was a chucker who was getting worse the habit. Tough guy, yeah, but not good enough. - That's what risks are all about. - There is absolutely no good intel that Conley leaves after just one year. Dude wants to win...

    Jazz front runner for Conley

I love it. Crowder turned into ChuckForce 5 last year, Korver is basically done, first this year in a somewhat weak draft and a first next year when we'll have another late pick... Sounds like a steal to me. Favors and Exum are still around as trade bait as well.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Horford - No. Paul - No. Someone announce Conley already.

    Jazz front runner for Conley

I don't think it's much of an issue. Assuming everyone is right and Conley's body turns to dust due to age after one year, he'd be dumb to turn down $32. It'll be the last big money year of his career. I certainly wouldn't bet on a huge contract at 34. Shoot, no one wanted to pay George Hill...

    Jazz front runner for Conley

The Mavs are in an entirely different place than us. They're rebuilding. Porzingis and Doncic are their Mitchell and Gobert. It's what they add to those two guys is what really matters. Those moves that take them up a tier or not. When healthy, they're fighting for a playoff spot. But a title...

    Jazz front runner for Conley

https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2019/06/17/mike-conley-qa-how-utah/ Andy Larsen spelled it out pretty clearly in this Conley Q&A. I'd trust him as a 'final word' on the matter of scenarios, players, money etc.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

You know who is really fragile? Exum. Kawhi played all of 60 games this year after missing all of last year. Yes, different players/tiers etc. But when you throw out your best lineups, you win games. Mike Conley the basketball player is better than most of who we've had on this team for the past...

    Plan B?

None of the Plan Bs move the needle... If all else fails... I'd rather see us eat cap space and give guys minimum deals to fill out the roster. Wait for a potential scenario at the trade deadline. Run it back with maybe a stopgap at PG. Don't want to see even moderate contracts to moderate guys.

    Woj bomb... AD to Lakers

Not three ball... James and Davis shoot below league average and Rubio shoots the three better than AD.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

The Lakers are at least two good floor-spacers away from being the next Warriors... everyone needs to calm down. LeBron and AD means you pack the paint. LeBron and AD aren't Curry, Thompson, or Durant type threats from deep. We've all seen LeBron lag on D. Until they get a really nice guard...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Adding Kuzma into that group... is a stretch. He's growing, but not third star good yet. LeBron is aging. But if the window is open right now, gotta go through LA and Golden State and Houston and Denver. All you can do is worry about yourself. Conley goes a long long way towards competing with...

    Woj bomb... AD to Lakers

AND. Kiss any hope of Kemba goodbye. The Jazz could have been competitive against the Hornets, but the Hornets and the Lakers? Conley is the answer.

    Woj bomb... AD to Lakers

So... the Lakers hold out for FA now. They'll get Favors at C if we get Conley. Or they'll have Kemba or Kyrie. All according to rumors, now. But they've got plenty of cash to sign a third.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

This. Buddies. Friends. Chemistry. Wasn't that the slant last year? Look at Toronto. Ripped buddies apart and actually won a title because of it.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

This is most important. The Conley option keeps the Jazz in control of the situation. ANY scenario involving FAs... well, you're risking a Hayward situation. Losing and losing big.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Um. Jazz? Dennis? Quin? The time is now. Throw everything you have at whatever it takes to get a top tier star this offseason. The door has officially slammed wide open for next year. KD likely gone from the West, but out regardless. Klay probably re-ups now and is out most of next year now...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

The Jazz 'doing their homework' means contacting agents and seeing who they have a realistic chance at getting a meeting with. The 'tampering' is already well underway. If the Jazz make a Conley trade, it means they were told they had very little chance at even getting meetings with anyone...
