News, rumors and buzz around the draft and free agency

Wow. Harrison Barnes declining his $25.1 million player option and becoming an unrestricted free agent.

    Jazz front runner for Conley

It 100% matches. If they Jazz renounce rights to everyone but Favors that leaves $17 million in cap space. If you throw in Exum $9.1mm + Korver $3.4mm + Bradley $2.0mm + the 2019 1st round pick the trade works.

    Jazz front runner for Conley

I disagree. I think it makes all the sense in the world. I've posted this several times but I'll keep posting it. This trade works: Jazz renounce the rights to Neto, Udoh, Rubio, & Sefolosha. They send Exum, Bradley, Korver, & 2019 1st round pick. The Jazz then receive Conley in return and keep...

    Jazz front runner for Conley

It works if you renounce the rights to Neto, Udoh, & Rubio. Then include Exum, Korver, & Bradley and the 2019 first.

    Jazz front runner for Conley

Right now my favorite trade that works is, - Relinquish the rights to Rubio, Sefolosha, Udoh - Trade Exum, 2019 1st, Kyle Korver, Tony Bradley - Receive Mike Conley & retain Derrick Favors

    Jazz front runner for Conley

Once again, here's why I don't like the Conley deal. In two years the Jazz will likely have Gobert on a supermax ($50mm/year) and Mitchell on a max deal ($30mm/year. That's $80 million between those 2 guys. That leaves limited cap space for the rest of the roster. If Conley is coming off the...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Salaries don’t have to match, the Jazz just have to be kept under the cap, correct? So theoretically the jazz would only have to send $16 million (or whatever the exact number is) in salary to get back conley’s $32 million. Assuming the jazz renounced rights to everyone but Favors.

Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

I'll be happy if the Jazz trade their pick. They should've done it last year when they fell in love with Grayson Allen. Most mocks had him about 10 spots lower than the Jazz drafted him before news leaked they wanted to draft him.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

It's a good thought. But Dennis Lindsey won't trade anybody who meets either of this criteria: A) Has significant investment made by Dennis into the player B) Is a good locker room guy with "Jazz DNA" and tries hard on defense. Crowder fits "B", thus he won't be getting traded by Dennis.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If I were Dlo’s agent I’d tell him to go the Pacers. He’ll be a perennial all star in the East. In the West there’s no chance.

    Plan B?

Love it. One of my favorite plan B ideas I’ve seen yet. I think somehow Dragic may also have to be part of it if he picks up his player option this year.

In my opinion there is literally 0 chance PJ Washington drops to 23.

    Plan B?

Trading for Kevin Love is my worst nightmare. No way Dennis is that dumb. I also know the no deal would include Exum. Dennis wouldn’t give up Exum even if it meant getting Kawhi Leonard.

    Plan B?

    Which is?

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I would absolutely trade our 1st round pick to someone like Philly, Sacramento, Atlanta. etc for two 2nd round picks, or to someone for their 2nd round pick and an asset. I really like the depth in this draft and like our chances of landing a solid player with 3 2nd round picks more than just...

Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

I actually really hope we trade the 1st round pick for either two 2nd round picks or an asset and a 2nd pick right. I really like the depth in this draft and like our chances of landing a solid player with 2/3 second round picks as much as I do our first round pick. The contracts would also be...

    Plan B?

Assuming we strike out on Tobias Harris, DLo, Conley trade, etc. What's the plan B? I'm all for still letting Favors walk. We've tried it. It's redundant with Gobert and doesn't give the Jazz enough shooting they need. There's still potentially a great list of FA's available that could be paired...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Here's my biggest issue with Conley (and I've love to hear a counter argument to it). Conley has two years left on his deal. When that deal is done Conley will be 34 years old and his career will likely be about over. Meaning he won't be a top guy for the Jazz to resign. They'll also likely have...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I've realized Tobias is a pipe dream. Hopefully though New Jersey is where he lands. That would likely mean cutting DLo loose and give us our best shot at landing any max player. Sure there's plenty to knock with DLo, but man the potential is there and he's young. Locking him up for 4 years with...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I assume there actually isn't any truth to this tweet. However, let's say Blake Griffin were actually on the trade block because Detroit wants to clear space and start over. Do we think there's any viable offer the Jazz could make that would be appealing? One aspect I think is that the Jazz...
