    Donovan Mitchell...First Team All-Defense

I think he'll get a lot of steals per minute but will also get burned a lot and lost on screens often during his first season, all due to being inexperienced.

    Donovan Mitchell...First Team All-Defense

I don't think anyone here wants him to fail. The question is whether he is going to be a great defender right away or a good or great defender only down the line. No rookie wing or guard ever was a great defender right away, since defending well on the perimeter demands not only willingness and...

    Donovan Mitchell...First Team All-Defense

Perhaps, but there is also a chance that, when Mitchell ends up falling short of those loft expectations, some fans will pretend that he reached them. lol

    Establishing our core

It might be due to a cultural difference, but the notion that Mitchell is part of a Jazz "core" before even playing a single game in the league puzzles me. Guys, he might struggle; he might struggle big time, like Kris Dunn last season; he might struggle and never develop past the level of Alec...

Rudy Gobert on Twitter: People care more about attention than about winning nowadays...

In a way, it is a weird statement by Gobert, because he is being dismissive of people that like attention while drawing attention to himself by tweeting. On the other hand, it is a completely innocuous statement from his part; one that was not worth of a thread or a discussion, IMHO.

Countdown to the Rubio/Gobert pick and roll being > the Stockton Malone pick and roll

Rubio is a very problematic offensive player. Not only he absolutely can't finish inside but he was awful making long jumpers for most of his career. Only last year he became good on long 2s but was still bad on 3s. Previously, he had one good year shooting 3s (2014-15), but that ability went...

Who will lead in PPG this season?

If you are only talking about last season, Hayward was very good indeed. My argument, though, was that Hayward was clearly "the man" for three seasons and only during the last one his offensive efficiency was high, so it's not like he was consistently good at that role.

    Burks

"He simply needs better focus and better court awareness on defense" — Well... the guy has been playing competitive basketball since at least high school and, at the age of 26, has yet to develop a good defensive focus. Nevertheless, you seem somehow sure that this is bound to happen. It is nice...

Who will lead in PPG this season?

    2014-15 - usage% 26.2 - true shooting% .567 2015-16 - usage% 25.7 - true shooting% .559 2016-17 - usage% 27.2 - true shooting% .595 (per basketballreference.com) I think we really disagree on this one, Cy. Hayward's usage was basically the same during the last three seasons, but only...

Who will lead in PPG this season?

To me, Hayward was naturally a third-option player that should have been some sort of big point guard. He wanted to be the man, though, and worked his *** off to become it. In the proccess, management basically gave in, conceding to him the main offensive role, but last season was the only one...

Who will lead in PPG this season?

To me, the averages you're talking about seem unsustainable during a whole season, especially without Hayward, who drew much attention from the defenses. Besides, let's not forget that Gobert is not the most durable player ever - far from it. I don't think management would like to see him...

Note to the writer Josh Haslam: if you take out of consideration all the subpar games, any player would look great.

What happened to Derrick Favors at the age of 25 and can he bounce back?

No. The fact that he is doing the aforementioned exercise is not indication that his back issues are mostly solved. From my own personal experience, I can tell you that there is no clear correlation between doing some stabilizing stuff like that and running or jumping without pain. What Favors...

    Jazz Sign Ekpe Udoh

Actually, according to basketballreference.com, Favors playing time was divided between PF and C in BOTH the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons in the exact same manner: 46% at PF and 54% at C. Despite that very, his PER was 21.6 during 2015-16 and 15.8 2016-17. Hence, Favors' success or failure cannot...

Gobert/Rubio best PG combo since S&M?

I think most people in this forum are already overrating and overhyping Rubio and he hasn't played even a single game for the Jazz. It is very problematic to make use of Rubio and at the same time have a great offense because of his somewhat limited skill set. Previously, Rubio was terrible at...

    Injuries and comebacks

(my emphasis) Cappy, nateboz was talking about highly athletic players, guys, so Ilgauskas doesn't count. Hill wasn't ever near the same after his injury. Before, he was like a cross of Scottie Pippen and Lebron James, but less athletic and without a 3 point shot; afterwards, he was just a...

    Jonathan Simmons

I totally disagree. For starters, basketballreference.com has him playing SG for more than 90% of the time during his two years in the league, so you are basically guessing when you say he's a SF. Besides, for his career, at 10.6, Simmons PER is not only well bellow the league's average - which...

What happened to Derrick Favors at the age of 25 and can he bounce back?

I think Favors is going to have a better season than the last one, but you are too optimistic IMO. It's really improbable for a team to have two guys averaging like 22 rebounds combined - unless, of course, one misses a big chunk of the season and the other another chunk, so they don't play...

    Hood

I think I disagree with general opinion regarding Hood. As of right now, I think Hood is not a second-option kind of player, but a not very good first-option. I say so because, as a second or even third option, he doesn't seem to be able to score more efficiently than as a first. Regarding his...

    Rubio traded to Jazz

Stockton might have been a crappy outside shooter for today's standards in his first years, but there were few good outside shooters back then. Besides, he had a very good mid-range game and was a GREAT finisher around the rim - even in his later years, when his athleticism was waning. Rubio, in...
