NIL had heavily impacted the NFL draft and it is easy to imagine it having big impact on the NBA draft unless some type of cap or limit is placed on college teams. Just one more reason why the draft is a complete crap shoot. Trade for talent, not picks.

I like your question better but I think they are very different questions. I would say you tank for one or two years (and we are on year 3) but it takes 5ish years to try and build a contender. If your time frames get beyond that, player movement means you are likely to be starting over.

This is why trading 3 first round picks for one that has a totally unknown value is a head scratcher. It is also why trading for young talent is better than trading for draft picks.

This trade is an acknowledgement of how much of a total crap shoot it is to bet on the draft and how, in many cases, draft picks don't mean much in terms of value. We gave up 3 first round picks for a complete crystal ball hope and prayer that Phoenix will be bad when we want it to happen...
