Queen outplayed Yang by most metrics in this game:
17pts vs 15 pts, 10 reb vs 3reb, 3ast vs 2 ast, both had 1 steal and 2 blocks, +10 vs +2
Yang might end up better than Queen, but we go a little overboard on this site sometimes.
One thing that I've always been struck by when looking at summer league stats is that second year players generally play so much better than rookies. I've accounted for that as sign for how much better player development is in the NBA vs other leagues.
OK, went back 3 years and looked at as many Sophomore performances as I could and compared vs their Sophomore year in the NBA. There are lots of examples of Sophomores playing well in Summer League and not doing very much their Sophomore year in the NBA. I couldn't find very many examples of...
My expectation is that real NBA players will look out of place, in a good way, by their second year in the Summer League, but is there any data to back that up?
I did a semi deep dive on rookie performance in summer league compared to rookie performance in their first year which basically...
Hopefully, I'm just not sure what they are waiting for. I thought he showed plenty last year to offer a real contract.
Can't any other NBA team give him a real contract and take him away? Or does the two-way give us first to offer rights?
I mentioned something similar in the game thread. I can see the vision.
I'm not in love with the idea of a big that can't defend, but I'm warming up to the idea of Flip being so talented offensively you have to try and make it work.
I landed just in time to see Collier make that huge block on Harper and then to see Cody steal the inbound pass. Flip is so gifted offensively, but I think he's going to need to be surrounded by difference making defenders. You could kind of see the vision of how that could work this game...
It was one game and he's arguably been as good or better than the guys drafted around him.
For the record I think that Toronto was an awful fit for him, so I'm not expecting much, but still hoping he surprises.
We already knew he couldn't shoot and his shooting wasn't going to improve this quickly.
For the record, I wasn't complaining, just curious what you were seeing to make you low on him. What I saw was about what I expected.
I don't get the CMB stuff. He's only played in one game, and played great defense, which is what he was drafted for. He made every non-3pt shot he took and was the only starter to not have a negative +/-. The only bad thing was his turnovers, but again this was his first game of the SL.
