I'll go down with the ship regardless & enjoy the ride but winning a championship should always be the priority. I will be disappointed if we don't operate in a manner that at least has the potential to allow us to contend in the future. I would rather swing & miss than settle for early playoff...

I hope we hit the re-set the reset button but that's unlikely. My guess is we retain both Exum/Hood to build around, along with Mitchell/Gobert(/Bradley) + Rubio/Ingles(/hopefully Crowder) providing leadership. I also expect DL to potentially move Favors/JJ for future assets by the deadline...

Fair enough, Hayward certainly doesn't come off as a natural leader. I do believe he will be the "player coach" however, due to his rapport with BS. And I don't envision IT in their long-term plans so I believe it will eventually become Hayward's team over time.

There's no way Brown doesn't get mins & I would be shocked if Tatum didn't as well. As far on passing on Fultz, I imagine DA is stockpiling assets in hopes of landing thst #1 option if/when he becomes available.

Both of which are highly valuable trade assets, not to mention the future BKN + LAL/SAC & excess talent. Also, I would be shocked if Hayward isn't part of the long-term future. I expect him to be the young veteran leader/2nd coach, IT to get traded by the deadline, & the FO to attempt to move...

Also, the fact that DA didn't draft Fultz makes me wonder whether Hayward was truly on the fence so DA was hedging his bets or if he sold Hayward on a long-term plan of eventually packaging a surplus of assets for a true superstar.

Regardless of whether Hayward is Bird/an all-star/etc & how he fits in BOS, he was invaluable to this team. He is a legit #2/3 on a championship caliber team (which are extremely difficult for small-market teams to obtain). Losing him hurts but you can't deny his talent Ainge's approach will...

Obviously that's subjective. I guess the better question is, assuming we keep our current roster mainly intact, what do you see as this team's ceiling? Because if it's not that of a championship caliber team, does it really matter when we plateau?

Not sure if you're joking. By plateau, I meant reaching a level of success while lacking the necessary assets/financial resources/potential for internal development to significantly improve the roster in order to take that next step in competing.

Sure, without any significant additions/internal development. But with Hayward, theoretically at least, we were only a star away from legitimately competing. Losing him has widened that gap considerably & lowered that "plateau" significantly as well IMO
