Cody Williams Star Ascension Watch Thread

Bryon was a better shooter, but Cody has a bit more speed and athleticism. Honestly though, Russell's greatest strengths were intangibles: hustle and willingness to fit a role. I think Cody has shown some humility (maybe too much) and while the hustle/motor looks better, I think we still need to...

One thing I noticed watching the Minnesota game was a play where Randle got switched on to Cody about 15 feet out and Randle tried to back him down, but Cody didn't budge. Definitely not how that play would have gone last year.

Seeing a young player dunk over someone is always great, but it feels especially encouraging for Cody because it shows growing confidence. Hope he keeps it up! Link should go to the dunk. Timestamp is 5:20.

The NBA and its stakeholders have started talks on finding new solutions to prevent tanking

This has been my desired solution for a while. It obviously eases the pain point of an unlucky draw after a bad season, and I think if the rolling odds last over multiple seasons, it could make a middling season or two much more palatable since at least you're still building up some lottery odds...

I don't know about "notable," but as far as a long career, the answer is yes and he played for the Jazz: C.J. Miles. EDIT: Harder to compare stats because he was a big man, but Jermaine O'Neal was also quite bad for a few seasons.

share your current thoughts about whether Taylor Hendricks is an NBA player

I still think Hendricks can make it as a third big type of role player. What I'm most worried about is the motor (same as Cody Williams, really). But coming off an injury like that is tough not only physically but mentally. Hope he pulls it off because I was really excited after his rookie year.

    Ace Bailey ROY watch

This is what sticks out to me. He looks like he's having fun out there, but that's paired with a desire to win and becoming a better player. I just think his attitude, if it sticks, is really going to shape the franchise.

Ace also had a couple really nice assists this game and a sweet block.

I've heard the most buzz about Detroit.

    Walt Clayton is a Dog

There was one board he fought for last night against Sabonis that really impressed me (I think we didn't end up recovering the ball, but it was still fun to see)

Zach Lowe Says We Will Like New Jerseys

Well yeah there was the black and yellow mistake that the Jazz have moved on from. But that aside, purple and light blue (with black and white) have been part of the new rebrand since the start.

I'll be at the game. A bit sad if Ace misses, but should still be a fun watch.

The light blue is also the only new official color that hasn't been fully jersey-fied, and we know they want to start establishing that brand identity. I'm excited for it--I know that the baby blue era wasn't everyone's favorite but I liked 'em.

Ringer Top 100, Lauri moved up, Kessler snub?

I don't think I or most anyone would argue that he should be ranked higher than 14 among centers--but if you split positions evenly than you'd expect a top 100 list to have the top 20 centers, more or less. It looks like you're right that centers aren't as highly represented in this list. And...

Ringer Top 100, Lauri moved up, Kessler snub?

Yeah I think that's a good point. I truly don't think it's Walker's fault, but that's a reasonable conclusion for analysts to make.

Ringer Top 100, Lauri moved up, Kessler snub?

The Ringer Top 100 list I'm a bit surprised Walker still isn't in the top 100. Not sure Mitchell Robinson or Jabari Smith are better right now. Lauri moved up 10 spots to #43. That feels about right. The Jazz are tied with Washington and Brooklyn for least players on the list (1), but Lauri is...

That's pretty much where I land too. The defense seems there, and he's had some good one dribble moves to cut to the basket. Still a bit worried about the finishing/shooting and inconsistency, but the fact that he worked hard to add strength and weight makes me a lot more confident that he's got...

I figured Svi starting was because of all the missing players, and giving a little vet presence at the start along with Nurkic.

Hard Willy, please give the Keyonte, Ace, Taylor, Lauri, Kessler starting lineup a chance and a long leash.

I'd love to see this lineup at times for sure. Overall I come down in the KqWIN camp of wanting to spread out playmakers and finishers a bit. To me, that either means bumping Collier or Flip into the starting lineup. Probably Collier, but then we go from oversized backcourt to undersized...
