I’m pretty sure (reading tea leaves) we offered him around 20M/year and his camp wanted 30M/year. A 50M difference over the entire contract.
I think a 25M/year is a likely landing spot.
Absolutely brutal for Walker as he was on his way to his best season of his career.
Not extending him doesn’t look too bad at all now.
Full on tank ahead as our defense will be atrocious again.
I do think Chad is exaggerating the “secret messages” a bit.
tldr; FO and Walker were about 50M apart in talks
No clue if that means 5/100M vs 5/150M or 5/135M vs 5/175M.
I did a poll with on Twitter and 70% voted Walker was worth 5/125M max.
The Utah Jazz starting five of:
Keyonte George - Svi Mykhailiuk - Lauri Markkanen - Kyle Filipowski - Walker Kessler
- #1 offensive rating (161.2 ORTG)
- #2 defensive rating (95.5 DRTG)
This is out of all 5-player NBA lineups with a minimum of 25 minutes played in 2025-26.

I think anyone rationally would agree we should have extended him if the number was right. We don’t know what any numbers were though that’s the thing. If it came out that he would have agreed to 25M/year then yeah we fumbled that. If it was 30M and he ends up getting 35M it’s not that big of a...
That’s the proposition. Would you settle for 25M a year and if he takes the leap great you got him for cheaper or would you rather have another year of data on him before you commit that much money towards him?
I think it’s obvious the relationship between the Jazz and Kessler hasn’t been the best. The FO doesn’t believe in him enough to give him 30M a year. Like I said on the pod I’m not sure I’m comfortable giving him that either.
He could end up getting traded I think. Our front office likes a...
